A Comprehensive Guide to Using a Self-Service Car Wash
Using a self-service car wash can be a simple and cost-effective way to clean your vehicle. Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to use a self-service car wash:
- Locate a Self-Service Car Wash: Use search engines or apps to find a nearby self-service car wash station.
- Prepare Your Vehicle: Remove any personal belongings, trash, or loose objects from the car’s exterior.
- Choose Your Service: Most self-service car washes offer different cleaning options, like soap, rinse, wax, etc. You may need to insert coins, bills, or a credit/debit card to select the desired service.
- Pre-Rinse: Before applying soap, use the high-pressure rinse to remove loose dirt and debris.
- Apply Soap: Select the soap option and use the wand to spray your car. Start from the top and work your way down, covering all areas.
- Scrub if Necessary: Some stations provide a foam brush. You can scrub your car to remove stubborn dirt. Be gentle to avoid scratching your car’s paint.
- Rinse: After scrubbing, choose the rinse option to wash away the soap. Again, start from the top and work your way down.
- Wax (Optional): Some self-service car washes offer a wax option. Apply this if you want a protective coating on your vehicle.
- Dry Your Vehicle: Use the provided air dryer or a microfiber towel to dry your car. Drying by hand can prevent water spots.
- Vacuum Interior (Optional): Some locations have vacuum stations to clean your car’s interior. Insert coins or pay as required.
- Inspect Your Vehicle: Do a final walk-around to ensure all areas are clean and to your satisfaction.
- Follow Safety Guidelines: Always adhere to the instructions and warnings provided at the car wash station. Wear appropriate clothing, and be mindful of slippery floors.
- Leave the Bay Clean: If there’s a trash can, dispose of any garbage. Put away any provided tools like brushes back where they belong.
- Exit Promptly: Be mindful of others waiting and exit the wash bay in a timely manner.
Remember, every self-service car wash might have slightly different equipment and procedures, so take a moment to read any posted instructions or ask for assistance if needed. Self-service car washes are typically open 24/7 and can be a convenient way to maintain your car’s appearance.

The first time my girlfriend took her vehicle through the wash, it ripped off a trim panel.
We thought that the tape gave out, but after closer inspection it literally ripped some of the paint off down to the bare, non rusted metal. We took the rest of the panels off and went through again a few days later. After we washed it she noticed scratches that weren’t there before….after closer inspection, we saw them EVERYWHERE. The wash caused hundreds of fine scratches down the entire length of the vehicle, and there are circular scratches on the hood from the brushes spinning and grinding in dirt in to the paint.
She JUST bought this vehicle, and has pictures showing its flawless paint job.
Someone obviously took a VERY dirty car through before us and the brushes weren’t cleaned properly- all of their dirt got ground into and ruined her new vehicles paint.
You can clearly see and follow where the brushes moved, gouging her paint front
To back. The few spots that the brushes missed don’t have any of the scratches, so they can’t claim that it wasn’t the brushes.
Her tail lights were also perfectly clear, and now they’re all gauged to hell
I contacted them via their website and tried going in in person and still haven’t heard back in over a week.
We tried helping a local business and ended up ruining the vehicle that my girlfriends inheritance paid for. We were proud of it, and tried taking care of it properly. Now it’s scratched and So sad
By Adam DeBlois (2 months ago)Best Car Wash Around!!! I live on a dirt road and my vehicles are always dirty. Most places I’ve used in the past leave a nasty film on my truck even after multiple washes. Due North gets my truck SPOTLESS! I love it!
I’m a bit of a clean freak and so the vacuums and the cloths are a major bonus. I really appreciate being able to basically detail my truck (not quite obviously). I wipe down the dash and doors, interior and exterior glass, run the floor mats through their scrubber and vacuum out all the gravel and dirt from the road.
The people who work there have always been friendly and helpful. I appreciate their hard work and attention to detail.
I’m a Due North Fan through and through.By Sarah Vadnais (6 months ago)I had received a free car wash and Lord knows living in Minnesota, that first warm day after winter season, you go through the car wash. I’ve never heard of this place before so I decided to take a drive and give it a go. Friendly service at the window.. pulled around to the wash.. the young lady was very clear on instruction..the whole experience from start to finish was amazing. That’s all it took for me to sign up for the nicest car wash monthly plan. Absolutely love this place. If you haven’t tried it YOU NEED TO! I’ll be going back once a week to get my vehicle cleaned. Thank you for the great results too.By Lora Smith (3 months ago)Best wash in town! After a long buggy drive I took my vehicle for a wash in Monticello. After the wash I received a text asking about my visit, I replied with overall positive feedback and one small suggestion. That I still had some bug debris on the front of my vehicle, other than that I was very happy. They went above any beyond, contacted me to clarify and gave me another FREE wash and then followed up to ensure I was happy. Now that’s service! Love the bay areas where you can towel dry and vacuum the inside of your vehicle. My only wish is that they had a location to spray down my interior rubber mats after the long salty winter season. Otherwise, great experience and wonderful results.By Jen Snoddy (2 months ago)Steer clear of this car wash. I ran my wife’s SUV through the wash back on October 15th. The wash caught the front lower bumper and pulled it off. My wife’s vehicle was in perfect condition with no issues. After speaking with the owner who then passed me off to a part time manager to handle this I was met with little communication. After weeks of waiting for a decision they stated they will not cover the $1900 damage. I was very patient through the very unprofessional communication. I ended up filing a lawsuit against the car wash because they refused to repair the damage that their wash caused. They absolutely do not take accountability for damage caused by their car wash. I had spoke to a couple of other individuals in the area that I know that said, they had similar issues with damage to their vehicle and the car wash also denying repairs. If you take a look at my profile, I have lots and lots of reviews on places with 99% being positive I would absolutely steer clear of this car wash if you want your car to remain in good condition.By Branden B (8 months ago)

Worth the price they charge, if you have the time.
I went here yesterday and in the end I was pleasantly surprised. I’ve done full detailing on my cars before at other places so I was curious what their “Grand Slam” package would produce. The way I would summarize it would be that I was impressed for the $40 compared to what a full detail elsewhere costs. Wife’s car was disgusting going in and came out really clean.
The few negative things I would add are as follows: first, know that it will take a long time. I went there at 11am on a Monday and it took a little over an hour. Talking with the person inside, this seemed about the normal timeframe. Second, they aren’t perfect. There was still a spot of something on my driver door interior that I wiped off when I got home and the gap between the seat and console looked untouched.
Most of the bad reviews seemed like they were expecting a full detail (think $150+ at paradise) but only wanted to pay $32. This place did a great job for the price, if you have time time.
By Brandon Schaa (a month ago)We’ve always had a great experience here. The staff is hardworking & is quick with the quality of work they produce. We’ve always gotten the “Grand Slam” package, it’s a little more expensive than a typical clean- but well worth the price! The vanilla smell added at the end is a nice touch. Thank you!By LM (10 months ago)My daughter gave me a gift card from here because my car was always so dirty.
I went today and I don’t think my car looked this good when I bought it. So shiny and clean, the interior was wonderful – and all the windows were sparkling.
Thanks so much to all the hard working men and women at Touch ‘Em All Car Wash!! I’ll be back!By sherry stevens (a year ago)They always do a great job. They even removed my kids car seats and cleaned underneath them!!! It was worth the price $30 dollars for exterior and interior cleaning and my van looks like new!!!! The auction from the free vacuums is incredibly powerful- wow! Love that that is an option here and love the handy touchscreen for options for your car wash too. Staff are friendly and courteous and professional. I’ve treated a relative of mine to a couple car washes now and they love the results too!
It’s not perfect but prices are great for unlimited considering everyone else charges $15 for just one wash. They clean the underbody and wheel before entering. Almost no wait time. Why go elsewhere?
The staff do a great job taking extra care to spray excess dirt off before entering the wash! They usually smile or wave when you enter.
The vacuums are absolutely amazing. Car wash didn’t get back center of my tailgate, but that’s ok. Guys and gals were working hard
Love this place! Tons of reasons Buff N Glo is the best place in town to get your car looking beautiful inside and out. 1.The carwash works every time. 2. the employees who manually spray and scrub your car down before you enter the actual wash. 3. The free vacuums are awesome. They make cleaning the interior of your car so much easier than trying to do it at home! 4. The wash pulls you through with a tire on a track and your car in neutral, another great convenience.
