The Key Elements of Women-Friendly Gyms
When determining the best gyms for women, there are several factors to consider. Here are some key aspects that make a gym female-friendly:
- Women-Specific Programs: The best gyms for women often offer specialized programs tailored to their unique fitness needs. This may include women’s-only fitness classes, prenatal and postnatal programs, or targeted workouts for specific goals like toning, flexibility, or core strength.
- Supportive and Inclusive Environment: A welcoming and supportive environment is crucial for women to feel comfortable and confident at the gym. Look for a gym that promotes inclusivity, respects personal boundaries, and fosters a sense of community among its female members.
- Certified Female Trainers: Having certified female trainers on staff can be beneficial for women who prefer to work with someone who understands their specific fitness concerns and goals. Female trainers can offer guidance, motivation, and a relatable perspective throughout their fitness journey.
- Variety of Fitness Options: The best gyms for women should provide a diverse range of fitness options to cater to different interests and preferences. This may include cardio equipment, strength training areas, group fitness classes (such as yoga, Pilates, or dance-based workouts), and access to amenities like swimming pools or saunas.
- Focus on Health and Wellness: Gyms that prioritize overall health and wellness are ideal for women. Look for facilities that offer additional services such as nutrition counseling, spa treatments, meditation or mindfulness classes, and educational workshops on topics like stress management or self-care.
- Safety Measures: Women often appreciate gyms that prioritize safety and take measures to ensure a secure environment. This may include well-lit spaces, security personnel or cameras, emergency response protocols, and easily accessible panic buttons or help stations.
- Clean and Well-Maintained Facilities: A clean and well-maintained gym is essential for any individual, including women. Hygienic practices, proper maintenance of equipment, and regularly cleaned facilities contribute to a positive and comfortable workout experience.
- Privacy Options: Some women prefer privacy during certain workouts or activities. Look for gyms that provide designated areas or private spaces for stretching, warm-ups, or exercises that require more seclusion.
- Flexible Hours and Childcare Options: For women with busy schedules or childcare responsibilities, gyms that offer flexible hours and on-site childcare services can be a significant advantage. This allows women to work out at their convenience without worrying about childcare arrangements.
- Positive Reviews and Testimonials: Before choosing a gym, consider reading reviews or testimonials from other women who are members. Their experiences can provide valuable insights into the gym’s atmosphere, services, and overall suitability for women.
Remember, the best gym for women will depend on individual preferences, goals, and comfort levels. It’s essential to visit potential gyms, ask for trial memberships or tours, and assess how well they align with your specific needs before making a decision.

One of the best drop in experiences I have ever had. In the last 10+ years I have visited over 100 CF gyms across the US and this one is near the top of the list. Bryant is a great coach, class was great, the facility is impressive, and the atmosphere is very welcoming. The members here are truly lucky. You don’t see this all the time.
Walking in I was greeted and shown around and instantly felt comfortable. The facility has all the equipment and space that you could ever want.
For a drop in it so easy to sign up ahead of time. The confirmation text with information like parking, workouts, and such was a touch I haven’t seen in a long time. I spent a few minutes after class thanking Bryant for making it so easy for a visitor.
Every time I’m back in Oahu this place will be home.
By Matthew Newell (3 weeks ago)I had an opportunity to drop in to a 6am class while on a business trip. The experience was terrific from beginning to end. The sign up process to drop in was super quick and easy. The schedule of classes and even the WOD was posted on their site. This is particularly helpful when traveling. The gym is huge! They even had parallel bars. They had 3 versions of the wod posted (wellness, RX and performance) and the coach briefed the class on the modifications available for each. The class was friendly and welcoming. The coach was fun, attentive and I felt at home. I am so glad I chose CrossFit Oahu to drop into while on the island. I felt comfortable getting my workout in and enjoyed the coaching I received. I will definitely go back when I have the opportunity and highly recommend others give it a try!By Jessica Landacre (a month ago)We had a great time at CrossFit Oahu. Great coaching, challenging workout and availability for open gym. Bryant was very welcoming and fun. Will definitely come back on our next trip to Oahu.By Isabel H. (a month ago)CrossFit Oahu was an amazing experience. As soon as I walked through the door I was greeted with a smile, and felt welcome right away. Everyone was so nice! The gym is amazing with all the equipment you need and the set up is perfect. If I lived here this would be the gym for me!!! The best on the Island!By Martinique Lemke (4 months ago)This place is truly incredible and a one of a kind gym. I dropped in for a month and was blown away. The artwork on the walls were designed by the owner, Bryant and it’s honestly stunning. He’s also an amazing person and a knowledgeable and hilarious coach. It is extremely organized and equipped with tons of well kept gym equipment. The cherry on top is that the people are all so friendly! I love all the coaches here and if you are looking to incorporate yoga into the mix check out the Yoga Collective upstairs. It is owned and operated by Malachi who is possibly one of the best CrossFit coaches I have ever come in contact with. He has a gift and is extremely knowledgeable. I was very happy with my month here and wish I didn’t have to return to California!By Laken Eby (a month ago)

I’ve been coming in this gym since they first open. I used to really like this gym a lot, cause it really convenient for me close to work. I really like the basketball despite being small compared to the in pearl city( Lots of good baller) but lately being getting disappointed. first flooring (Basketball court) is filthy slippery not being clean mops. second was some members playing in the basketball court was vaping shirtless. third was very annoying specially young members in the afternoon with all those tripods cameras all over. they should at least be more courteous to other members, instead still gives you attitude and mean looks. time to switch gym club for good!By Jun (Andy) (4 weeks ago)the locker room and showers are absolutely disgusting. The manager of this branch should be fired. I wouldnt even let my DOG bath there. There was mildew all over the shower walls. 3 of stalls were OUT OF ORDER. FIRE THE MANAGER OF THIS BRANCH.By Daniel Ulu (a week ago)Nice employees, big facility, lots of equipments and good air.
can get a bit crowded but there’s always something to do, parking recommend for smaller cars or the best will be for bikes and mopeds.
Not too expensive for the deal.By Daniel Aroche (2 months ago)I am revising my original review from a few years ago. They have gotten much better since the pandemic.
People are cleaning up machines after using them, the crowds are manageable and the staff seem a bit friendlier.I still cannot understand what makes this a super sport.. But it is
By Bruce Taggart (2 years ago)I am new to Oahu and am looking for a gym. I have health issues and working out keeps me healthy and happier. I usually try a gym at least one time before joining to make sure their equipment works for me and to see if we are a good fit. Well, this must be a common occurrence because the 24-Hour Fitness website tells you to sign up for a free three-day pass so you can check it out. I signed up and received the following email (cut and pasted, NO EDITING)“Thanks for requesting a free pass to 24 Hour Fitness. We’re excited to welcome you into the club!
Don’t forget to bring a photo ID and the web confirmation code below to show to a team member when you arrive. We’ll also activate the premium workouts and features in our 24GO® app for the duration of your pass – bring your phone to take advantage of studio class reservations, audio coaching, and hundreds of video workouts to help you get the most from your experience.
We look forward to seeing you,
Your 24 Hour Fitness Team”WELL, I was on my way to the facility when I received a phone call. The young man on the phone asked when I would be coming in because I needed an appointment to visit and it would be ONLY for a tour as they do NOT allow free workouts. He said (after asking if I was a tourist or a resident and I am a new resident), and I quote “We are way too busy to let people come in and work out for free”. He then explained only after I signed up and paid would I then be allowed to work out. When I pointed out that they were contradicting 100% of what the website explained, he did not care. When I asked if that policy meant the company was guilty of false advertising, he did not care. When he then asked when I wanted to come in for my tour, I said I did not want to come in (I should have said I don’t care). So, 24-Hour Fitness: PLEASE change your website to be truthful or perhaps get your franchises to stop making your advertised promises complete and utter LIES. You do not have to work out at 24-Hour Fitness to know they are a BAD MATCH. Find a better gym. I’ll let you know when I find it and I’ll post it.

I have been a member of Planet Fitness for 3 months. This gym has everything we need with great equipment and it’s clean.
5 star to the entire staff at Ala Moana. They have been amazing since the first day we joined. Kind, honest and always helpful. Well Pleased.
The management and staff are second to none. They greet you as you enter and get you pumped for your workout. They never fail to thank you as you exit. Their professionalism, knowledge, and hospitality let you know you are at the right gym. Their eagerness and willingness to train and assist spills over to the workout floor and makes for a comfortable and respectful space. To whom it may concern, this team , this gym , should be individually recognized as a TOP STOP GYM. The sanitizing of equipment and overall sanitation and cleanliness of the gym leaves nothing to be desired . Thank you to my fellow members as well. Sincerely neil
Only open till 7.p.m . Have to wait forever to use a shoulder press. Not set for someone who is serious about his or her routine. Owners are happy 😁 making money. They could careless about people who have to get home after a long day working. So happy I never signed up.
The air inside is completely stagnant, and it is literally cooler and more comfortable outside than it is in this gym. There is no air conditioning. The lack of airflow and humidity possibly makes this a breeding ground for viruses.
The gym isn’t very clean. The equipment is old. No bottle filler station so you can’t completely fill a bottle at the fountain. Recommend going somewhere else.
I gotta say for the price, it’s one of the best values in gyms period! Has tons of machines especially cardio and if you are a black card member, the massage chairs and hydro massage are great.
