Despite previously being 24hrs, and now advertising on their main signage as open till midnight they are now only open 6am to 9pm weekdays. That’s worse than Sainsbury’s. Looks like Asda is the only 24hr option in the area now

Needed a few items and was near North Harbour so popped in to Tesco. Needed the toilet and used the gents/male toilet. The first thing that hits you is the strong smell of urine, the urinals had crystallised urine around the drain hole and it gave off a strong smell. The reason it’s there is due to poor cleaning, the rest of the toilet wasn’t much better. While I appreciate the store is being refurbished the basics need to be right first.

Definitely room for improvement. Arrived to do a small shop, 0 baskets available on entry. No staff to ask for help. Went up to a checkout and got a basket from a member of the public. Easter egg choice poor and the eggs were still in the plastic packaging on the crates, had to unpack their delivery for them and get my own eggs. About 5 Easter cards in stock, no matching envelopes, absolute mess. Self service check out all okay and apart from the seasonal stuff the shelves were fully stocked. The home and clothing departments were much smaller for what my usual Tesco extra is like. On asking for stamps at the tobacco counter they didn’t have what I wanted but the gentlemen helped me to try make it work.

Used to open 24 hours, then shortened to 12 midnight because of COVID. Now, only open until 9:00pm!!! What??? People who works till late need groceries as well….

It is like a modern city going back to uncivilised age

My wife is mask exempt but she got a few nasty stares, in Watford that wasn’t the case. The customer service guy at 17:55 hrs on the 23/04/2021 was not friendly at all. Apart from that the store is okay if you can stand muzzled sheeples.

I really don’t like going in this shop due to the way the exit/entrance works, it makes you feel like you’re being trapped in and forced to buy something to leave. Additionally, It always gets ridiculously busy because there’s very few self service checkouts – surprisingly few for such a large store.

Waiting for the cigarette counter to open. Supposedly opens at 8am and didn’t open until 8.15am. It took security to call them to get a member of staff to open the tills

Neglected aging store. Staff are still thin on the ground and no priority at all given to manning tills. Remember “If there is ever more than one customer in front of you, we’ll open another checkout”? Queues at peak times are utterly ridiculous. Shoplifting is clearly rife as security tags and bags on vast array of products. Deli gone. Hot counter gone. Cafe gone. Atmosphere gone. Service levels gone. Several staff members I know have left the company due to the way they are treated at this store, which goes some way to explain lack of engagement by most staff. 27th Jan. No eggs. Aldi price match advertising on many own brand products, but original price charged at the till. Kiosk open but serving people with shopping who are avoiding the always long checkout queue rather than serving people actually needing kiosk products. One star rating still sadly applies.

I’m not one to leave negative reviews but I can’t help but feel obligated to say something.

The first problem is that I’ll go to tesco and have a plan in mind for dinner for the next few nights. Whether it is fajitas, chilli, or just pasta. However, they seem to lack the basic ingredients for these “typical” meals, it’s a joke. I’ll go in there, no peppers, no blueberries, no tomatoes, no basil, no tzatziki yet they’ll have multiple versions of humous and sour cream and chive dip. Not to mention that they have 3 different types of fresh chillies but all have the same strength! It doesn’t appear to have the smaller packs of mince either which isn’t ideal for a university student that lives alone.

Secondly, the quality of the food is not great. Not only are they charging so much money for their chicken breast but if you look inside the package it looks like it’s been flung around the floor and hit with a rolling pin, vile.

The queues are also a joke, I’ll be there waiting for absolutely ages while my food is going warm. The Tesco staff are nice from what I’ve experienced, however, there is never an apology or any sort of response to the queues. You’re just expected to line up down the isles waiting aimlessly. The self checkout area is a nightmare with people going there with shopping trolleys not having a clue how the system works.

Tesco in Portsmouth: Do’s and Don’ts Every Shopper Should Know

When shopping at Tesco, there are several rules and guidelines that customers should adhere to in order to ensure a smooth and enjoyable shopping experience. These rules not only help maintain the hygiene and safety standards of the supermarket but also promote fairness and consideration towards other shoppers.

Here are some rules to keep in mind while shopping at Tesco:

  • Wear a face mask: In accordance with government regulations, it is mandatory to wear a face mask or covering while inside the store. This not only protects you but also helps prevent the spread of viruses.
  • Maintain social distancing: Keep a safe distance of at least 2 meters from other shoppers and staff members. Tesco has implemented floor markings and signage to help customers maintain the appropriate distance.
  • Follow the designated routes: Tesco has introduced one-way systems within the store to manage the flow of customers. It is important to follow the indicated routes to prevent overcrowding and maintain a smooth shopping experience.
  • Use contactless payments: To minimize contact, it is advisable to use contactless payment methods such as cards or mobile payment options. Tesco also encourages customers to use the self-checkout machines whenever possible.
  • Respect the shopping hours for vulnerable customers: Tesco has allocated specific hours for elderly and vulnerable customers to shop in a safe and less crowded environment. It is important to respect these designated hours and allow those who need it the most to have priority access.
  • Be considerate and patient: Due to the increased demand and safety measures, there may be longer queues and some products may be temporarily unavailable. It is essential to be patient, understanding, and respectful towards the staff and other shoppers.

While Tesco has certain rules in place, there are also a few things that are not explicitly forbidden. However, it is always advisable to be mindful of others and follow general shopping etiquette:

  • Avoid unnecessary stockpiling: Panic buying and stockpiling essential items can create shortages for others who may urgently need them. It is important to only buy what you need and leave enough for others.
  • Do not consume food inside the store: Eating or drinking within the store premises is generally discouraged, as it may cause hygiene concerns and clutter the aisles.
  • Avoid excessive sampling: While Tesco may offer sampling stations for certain products, it is important to be considerate and avoid excessive sampling, especially during times when hygiene measures are crucial.
  • Do not leave carts unattended: Leaving shopping carts unattended in the aisles can cause congestion and inconvenience for other shoppers. It is advisable to park your cart in a designated location while selecting items.
  • Respect the staff and other shoppers: Maintaining a respectful and courteous attitude towards the staff and fellow shoppers is crucial. Remember to be patient, follow instructions, and treat others with kindness and understanding.

By adhering to these rules and guidelines, you can help ensure a safe, efficient, and pleasant shopping experience at Tesco.

  1. Always good experience, staff always friendly and helpful. Tonight whilst shopping late, there was no eggs left – a member of staff got me from the warehouse as they had not long received a delivery. So grateful 🙏🏼

  2. It’s an inner city Tesco Extra. The store is well organised. It has everything you need and more for your household. I wish they fix the travelator as it has been broken a few times lately. Being in the first floor with only two tiny lifts it leads to long queues. Alternatively they should put some trolleys upstairs so people don’t clog the lifts with trolleys

  3. This isn’t what I expect of Tesco – visited today and wandered round the clothes. It was like a jumble sale – see photo. Also at the base of one mannequin there was a pile of food items someone had left.
Went to a local charity shop later where pride had been taken over the presentation – second photo.

  4. Looks vile, has a strange stench of a rotting body and the workers are very very very unprofessional and one started to munch on my scotch eggs whilst I was checking them out, in response, I delivered a mean right hook to the side of her left cheek and she was dazed and confused. I was then arrested on suspicion of battery but I was released when they found out about the scotch egg incident, I then sued Tesco and lost 100k in the process, despicable

  5. We went to this Tesco and used the EV charger on a Sunday morning for 1 hour and 50 minutes and received a parking fine for staying beyond the posted time. The signs say 3 hours free parking! The parking company, Horizon Parking are an absolute fraud. I would never return to this Tesco location for that reason. We have since appealed the parking scam to the Ombudsman.
