A Comprehensive Guide to Using a Self-Service Car Wash
Using a self-service car wash can be a simple and cost-effective way to clean your vehicle. Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to use a self-service car wash:
- Locate a Self-Service Car Wash: Use search engines or apps to find a nearby self-service car wash station.
- Prepare Your Vehicle: Remove any personal belongings, trash, or loose objects from the car’s exterior.
- Choose Your Service: Most self-service car washes offer different cleaning options, like soap, rinse, wax, etc. You may need to insert coins, bills, or a credit/debit card to select the desired service.
- Pre-Rinse: Before applying soap, use the high-pressure rinse to remove loose dirt and debris.
- Apply Soap: Select the soap option and use the wand to spray your car. Start from the top and work your way down, covering all areas.
- Scrub if Necessary: Some stations provide a foam brush. You can scrub your car to remove stubborn dirt. Be gentle to avoid scratching your car’s paint.
- Rinse: After scrubbing, choose the rinse option to wash away the soap. Again, start from the top and work your way down.
- Wax (Optional): Some self-service car washes offer a wax option. Apply this if you want a protective coating on your vehicle.
- Dry Your Vehicle: Use the provided air dryer or a microfiber towel to dry your car. Drying by hand can prevent water spots.
- Vacuum Interior (Optional): Some locations have vacuum stations to clean your car’s interior. Insert coins or pay as required.
- Inspect Your Vehicle: Do a final walk-around to ensure all areas are clean and to your satisfaction.
- Follow Safety Guidelines: Always adhere to the instructions and warnings provided at the car wash station. Wear appropriate clothing, and be mindful of slippery floors.
- Leave the Bay Clean: If there’s a trash can, dispose of any garbage. Put away any provided tools like brushes back where they belong.
- Exit Promptly: Be mindful of others waiting and exit the wash bay in a timely manner.
Remember, every self-service car wash might have slightly different equipment and procedures, so take a moment to read any posted instructions or ask for assistance if needed. Self-service car washes are typically open 24/7 and can be a convenient way to maintain your car’s appearance.

I was a customer of this car wash for between 15 to 20 years. I won’t be returning after the way my fiance was treated By not Only the owner But the local police department. Which I will go into detail after I decide whether or not we are going to Pursue legal action. But unless you want your rights violated or you would wish to be harassed I would not recommend using their services without an alibi.By David “jondoe” Biener (4 months ago)Decent car wash. The automatic wash is a little run down, however, is incredibly affordable due to the monthly subscription. The automatic wash does occasionally close without warning for both maintenance and weather but the owner has gotten much better at giving warnings when the wash will close or if it must close unexpectedly.
The manual wash is amazing. I love having a air dryer in the manual section, I wish all self-serve car washes had one.
By 949paintball (6 months ago)Eric, the current owner, bought the Farmington Car Wash in 2006 and has transformed this small local business. Having lived in the area six years prior to his taking ownership, we’ve watched the renovations and are thrilled to have this facility nearby, saving us previous drives into Apple Valley or other neighboring towns to get a good car wash. The Farmington Car Wash, located on Hwy 3 just north of the Dairy Queen, lets you choose between both do-it-yourself car wash bays and Typhoon automatic touch-less car washes to keep our vehicles clean and pristine looking. We keep coming back here because “clean and well-kept” matter to us and clearly it does to the owner too. He is always very pleasant and helpful.
Its 3 bay self-serve wash means that we seldom have to wait. I also like that his vacuums have sufficient strength to get into deep corners within the car. The doors, washing tracks, brushes, and pay stations – all have been upgraded. We rely on the washes good pressure, can easily manage the brush, and it makes an easy transition to the rinse cycle. There is sufficient space for vans, boats and trucks to get around on all sides during a self-serve car wash. If I’m washing the car in low-light hours, it’s nice to have a sense of security because the property is digitally recorded 12/7.
Eric requests that the bays are NOT used to clean super muddy vehicles – and I for one, appreciate this. It means that the rest of us can consistently count of clean, functional, and pleasant bays. There is a handy vending area where we can purchase snacks and drinks as well as basic car care products.
Eric is consistently on hand tending the stations and working on equipment to keep everything in tip-top shape. I highly recommend this place and supporting our local Farmington, MN business owners.
By Jeannie Hill (2 years ago)Equipment works great, decent prices, clean stalls. Just know if you use your card in the machine in the stall it puts a $20 hold on your card until it clears. No surprises. The owner is pretty awesome too if you catch him there.By Stephanie Daniels (10 months ago)Nice and convenient touchless car wash (automatic bay). Prices are a bit high for a single location wash compared with Holiday’sBy Beto A. (6 months ago)

I would not recommend this car wash to anyone. My windshield wiper broke off, and my license plate bent in half. A 15-dollar wash ended up being more of a hassle than a service.By Samuel Aubol (5 months ago)More expensive than other washes but does a way better job we have an account there so it’s cheaper free vacuumsBy Anthony Burtman (2 months ago)Awesome car wash… reasonable pricing. Fantastic customer service.By Donna Moe (4 months ago)The car wash left blue soap all over the side of my car. It didn’t dry my car. Was a total wast of $16. To top it of the guy spraying at the beginning was rude. This was the first and last time visiting this place. No wonder it wasn’t busy.By Lynn Worrell (10 months ago)Awesome service! Very friendly! My car was filthy with bugs stuck on and they spent more time than normal pressure washing it by hand to try to get them off. Way above and beyond in my opinion.By J Nos (9 months ago)

Not that impressed. Left soap inside the hatch back seams on my wife’s Explorer, and it also scratched the front corner. So not happy with that. Took my truck there, and although it was supposed to clean the underside of the vehicle, it didn’t. We’ve had better results with Holiday, Kwik Trip, and HyVee car washes at half the price. The only real nice thing is the free vacuum cleaners you can use after the wash. And the staff was friendly. So 2 positive parts = the 2 star review. Otherwise would have been 1 star. Definitely not worth the price you pay.
Can do a better job with a garden hose…
2 stars instead of one simply because this is the only place I know of that accepts dually trucks. I just wish it was better.
I am a monthly member of this place and pay for the highest tier they offer. I wash weekly so it’s not like I have caked on dirt for months. Drove on a wet dirt road today and needed to get the dirt and salt off.
Sent my truck through the wash twice and still dirt everywhere. Went to talk to the attendants and was told there’s nothing they could do. I asked to use the garden hose to finish the job and was told no.
By reading other reviews on this wash it seems like this place would have happier customers if instead of having two people at the desk twiddling their thumbs, they would have an attendant with a pressure washer quickly pre treat areas that clearly need more attention. If Holiday gas stations can do it, then a car wash company should certainly be able to make it happen.
The wash does a great job getting the car clean but…
We did the ViPig wash ($21 at the time)
Might not be best for those who want to take care of the paint. It put some decent sized scratches on the roof of our sedan (Toyota Camry). We don’t have a large vehicle by any means so we were a little confused by how deep the scratches where. I wish they had a no touch wash option…
It is worth noting that since our car has clear coat damage, scratches show up much much easier.
But for those wishing to have a shiny wash without distracting scratches, best not to use this wash service ToT
The vacuums are okay. A little inconsistent. Sometimes have to hunt for the one with the most suction.
But besides the scratches and inconsistent vacuums, it gets the job done!
I had a great experience at Bubble Barn Car Wash! We took our truck in and it got it clean! The best part is that they have a TON of free vacuums to vacuum out your vehicle. Would come back!
Note: a Ford F-350 can fit into the carwash!
Bought the “best” wash and was happy until I went to vacuum the car out and the trunk had a ton of soap all over. Just not overly amused.
