Good shop with variety but pointless new security guard just standing there staring at you like you’re going to nick some crisps and noodle packs, he likes to follow customers and then pretend he’s just going your way and stop where you stop. Not sure if it’s profiling but sometimes I wonder why the security guard feels I’m going to risk jail time to steal some 65p noodles especially coming out of my car to go in the shop in the first place. What’s he gonna do jump on my bonnet as i try to make a getaway?

Special mention to the staff who were very helpful in a time where people are stockpiling like crazy. Looking for simple stuff like fruit and veggies was made easier since the staff handed them out to the customers as they were just restocking. They asked each person as to what they wanted, and went out of their way to get it from the delivery truck as well.

Kudos to them, I don’t think anyone else would do what these guys do. And i haven’t even started on the kind of rude behaviour they experience from aggravated customers. 5 stars isn’t enough for these guys.

Small shop with the basics. But ideally suited to pop in. Self service available and fresh groceries…..do dislike wrapped plastic though! Friend staff and a range of South Asian foods too

I travel the country and this Branch is the best because the Staff are so friendly and always welcome you with a hello how are you. Good choice of food considering this is a smaller store than many. Good parking outside if you are driving but busy during lunchtime 12 to 2pm. Tesco Hatfield Road is an asset to the local community.

It’s been a few times that I’ve visited this specific store and it’s not terrible, but there have been things which have been out of place, or items spilt which are left as they are. I am not sure if the staffing in store is struggling or can they not be asked, but it really puts you off shopping. I would say this is not the place to shop if you looking to do a whole lot of buying – better if your looking for just the quick pick up.

The store is generally well run but why do they just close the PO whenever it suits. For the third time now, I have gone into use the services of the PO and is was closed for the day, the latest occasion was 3.30pm in the afternoon. Not serving the community with vague opening hours which differ from those advertised.

Lovely trip this evening. Popped in to get a couple bits and was served by a very helpful employee. Aimee helped me find what I needed and provided excellent customer service. The store was clean, well-stocked and organised.

Can we please have fewer serve yourself checkouts and more staffed? Balance is quite wrong at the moment for those of us who are elderly and frail – and no doubt others. Present situation is unfair on staff trying to give helpful and efficient service.

Was in today at about 1220. I used the self scan checkouts but my box of antihistamines were too light to register on scales and repeated place in the bagging area. A middle aged dark skinned lady member of staff with a dark bob hairstyle used the machine next to me. I told her and she said to try to scan something else. I replied nothing else would scanned until it was resolved. There was no reply from her and she went behind the counter and serve a different customer leaving me with the problem. Eventually after lifting my milk it cleared but i had 5 packs so it was repeated. She may have been new and not know how to resolve it but she should have asked someone. She could have put the multiples in the machine for me to save that problem. I informed her on leaving she should have helped me before serving someone else. Not great service on her behalf.

Small but good. Coronavirus protection as good as possible and the staff make every effort. Customers always masked give or take the occasional selfish idiot. Not an enormous selection but can always make a decent meal from what is available.

  1. Excellent range of items at a very competitive price and very friendly staff. Central location. Parking at rear of the building. I never use self service check out. Love the face to face with very friendly staff. They are an asset to Tesco Metro, St Albans.

  2. Used to be my daily shopping spot. Variety and options of fresh produce declines every year. If you’re looking to cook yourself, not the place for you. Changed to M&S next door which always has much better choice of products for cooking.
