Key Factors for the Best Gyms for Families

When considering the best gyms for families, there are several factors to keep in mind. Here are key aspects that make a gym family-friendly:

  1. Family-Focused Programs: The best gyms for families often offer programs and activities that cater to all age groups, from children to adults. Look for gyms that provide family fitness classes, parent-child workouts, or specialized activities designed for kids, such as sports leagues or swimming lessons.
  2. Childcare Services: A family-friendly gym should have reliable and safe childcare services available on-site. This allows parents to work out while their children are supervised by trained staff in a stimulating and secure environment.
  3. Family Memberships: Gyms that offer affordable and flexible family membership options make it easier for the whole family to join and participate. Look for gyms that provide discounted rates or customized membership packages for families to encourage everyone’s involvement.
  4. Variety of Fitness Options: The best gyms for families provide a wide range of fitness options to accommodate different interests and fitness levels. This may include cardio equipment, strength training areas, group fitness classes, swimming pools, indoor or outdoor sports facilities, and even recreational activities like rock climbing or trampolining.
  5. Kid-Friendly Amenities: Family-friendly gyms often have amenities that cater to children’s needs. This may include dedicated play areas, kids’ fitness equipment, family changing rooms, or accessible restroom facilities. These features create a welcoming environment for families with young children.
  6. Educational Programs: Gyms that offer educational programs related to health, nutrition, and overall wellness can benefit families. Look for gyms that provide workshops, seminars, or resources on topics like healthy eating, child development, or family-oriented fitness tips.
  7. Safe and Clean Environment: Maintaining a safe and clean environment is crucial for family-oriented gyms. This includes regular equipment maintenance, adequate safety measures, proper sanitation practices, and attentive staff to ensure the well-being of all family members.
  8. Family Events and Activities: Engaging families through special events and activities helps create a sense of community within the gym. Look for gyms that organize family-friendly events like fitness challenges, holiday-themed activities, or outdoor picnics to foster social connections among families.
  9. Convenient Hours and Locations: Family-friendly gyms should have convenient operating hours and accessible locations. This allows family members to fit workouts into their schedules more easily, making it feasible for everyone to participate in fitness activities.
  10. Positive Reviews and Testimonials: Before choosing a gym for your family, consider reading reviews or testimonials from other families who are members. Their experiences can provide valuable insights into the gym’s family-friendly atmosphere, services, and overall suitability.

Remember, the best gym for families will depend on individual preferences, the specific needs of your family members, and your budget. It’s important to visit potential gyms, ask for trial memberships or tours, and assess how well they align with your family’s requirements before making a decision.

The fitness area is large, clean, and quiet. This is not your typical meat-head gym as there are all sorts of people who use the facility. It is a comfortable environment to work out in.

I have been a member of probably 5-6 gyms over the past 25 years. Cleanliness, equipment selection, and space/size are key to what I look for in a good gym. Anytime Fitness is rock solid.

If you enjoy cardio and lifting weights in a swamp, this is the gym for you. They have one single fan in the general gym area, and they’re very stingy on the a/c. It’s a shame during the summer, I usually go as a guest to my partners gym because it’s so miserable to workout here when it gets warm and crowded. Little to no circulation. Also, beware personal training. My first trainer was uneducated and had me in a calorie surplus unintentionally, and would “forget to count” during our training sessions. I was not allowed to break contract even when she left. My second trainer was wonderful and super educated, well worth it. Tracey is a little bit deceiving on the training and tried to slyly continue charging me past my contract. The classes are great and most staff helpful, both problems are a big L on their part.

Last week I joined Crunch just to walk after just having heart surgery two weeks ago. I was given a high pressured sales talk to do the personal training at a weak moment. I had just had heart surgery! When I called and emailed many times to get someone to respond it wasn’t until days later that they told me they could not help me. I told them my doctors did not want me to do ANYTHING but walk, that I could damage myself. I was told they would not refund me my monies but could use it later to do personal training. After further thinking about this I came to the conclusion that this was a bad business practice to do to anyone, much less a lady who just had heart surgery. Good grief, I can’t even lift my arms up yet. Let alone the fact that they KNEW I had just had heart surgery and was at a weak moment is the worst. What type of people pray on that? I’d go anywhere else but there.

Josh has been my personal trainer at Crunch Scott’s Addition for over a year. When I started, I hadn’t lifted weights in months, didn’t know what exercises to do nor was motivated to do them. My main concern was getting injured. In the last year I not only didn’t get injured I graduated to working out 3 times a week on my own; picking and selecting my own exercises with confidence. Highly recommend Josh to set you on a great fitness path.

Staff is usually great, fairly clean, supplies are usually stocked. Overall, good gym. But the squat racks are in front of windows that face the sunset with no tint or shades which is a pain. They also used a large chunk of the gym for punching bags and monkey bars that barely anyone uses. And there’s a lack of hammer strength machines. If they fixed this, it would be 5/5 considering the price.

The staff is helpful, the other gym goers are helpful, and the equipment is nice. I happened to go at a busy time of day on an extremely rainy day, so I wasn’t able to finish my workout. I’ll be back though.

  1. This gym is over crowded by VCU students all day. Even though VCU students pay for their own gym, they decide to take over this gym. If you want a nice quiet workout, I would pick a different Golds gym. They also do not have a pool anymore.

  2. Love this gym!! All of the trainers and staff are are amazing including Jacob, Ryan, Carol, Chelsea, Shanna, and Sam. Been coming for years!

  3. The Gold’s Gym at Willow Lawn is an ideal location, perfect size gym and awesome management and staff. Equipment is always in working condition and the housekeeping staff keeps the gym very clean. What’s not to like about a 24 hour fitness facility:)

  4. Great equipment selection and tons of space. Only issue is general cleanliness. It’s not filthy but could be better. There’s so much dust and old chalk in the crevices of the lifting platforms in the turf room that you sneeze.

  5. This “Gold’s Gym” location is great. The general manager is extremely professional and some of the staff members are helpful as well. I highly recommend this gym facility to everyone.
