Key Factors for the Best Gyms for Families

When considering the best gyms for families, there are several factors to keep in mind. Here are key aspects that make a gym family-friendly:

  1. Family-Focused Programs: The best gyms for families often offer programs and activities that cater to all age groups, from children to adults. Look for gyms that provide family fitness classes, parent-child workouts, or specialized activities designed for kids, such as sports leagues or swimming lessons.
  2. Childcare Services: A family-friendly gym should have reliable and safe childcare services available on-site. This allows parents to work out while their children are supervised by trained staff in a stimulating and secure environment.
  3. Family Memberships: Gyms that offer affordable and flexible family membership options make it easier for the whole family to join and participate. Look for gyms that provide discounted rates or customized membership packages for families to encourage everyone’s involvement.
  4. Variety of Fitness Options: The best gyms for families provide a wide range of fitness options to accommodate different interests and fitness levels. This may include cardio equipment, strength training areas, group fitness classes, swimming pools, indoor or outdoor sports facilities, and even recreational activities like rock climbing or trampolining.
  5. Kid-Friendly Amenities: Family-friendly gyms often have amenities that cater to children’s needs. This may include dedicated play areas, kids’ fitness equipment, family changing rooms, or accessible restroom facilities. These features create a welcoming environment for families with young children.
  6. Educational Programs: Gyms that offer educational programs related to health, nutrition, and overall wellness can benefit families. Look for gyms that provide workshops, seminars, or resources on topics like healthy eating, child development, or family-oriented fitness tips.
  7. Safe and Clean Environment: Maintaining a safe and clean environment is crucial for family-oriented gyms. This includes regular equipment maintenance, adequate safety measures, proper sanitation practices, and attentive staff to ensure the well-being of all family members.
  8. Family Events and Activities: Engaging families through special events and activities helps create a sense of community within the gym. Look for gyms that organize family-friendly events like fitness challenges, holiday-themed activities, or outdoor picnics to foster social connections among families.
  9. Convenient Hours and Locations: Family-friendly gyms should have convenient operating hours and accessible locations. This allows family members to fit workouts into their schedules more easily, making it feasible for everyone to participate in fitness activities.
  10. Positive Reviews and Testimonials: Before choosing a gym for your family, consider reading reviews or testimonials from other families who are members. Their experiences can provide valuable insights into the gym’s family-friendly atmosphere, services, and overall suitability.

Remember, the best gym for families will depend on individual preferences, the specific needs of your family members, and your budget. It’s important to visit potential gyms, ask for trial memberships or tours, and assess how well they align with your family’s requirements before making a decision.

I’ve never been so disrespected at a business let alone at gym. I don’t know this guy’s name but he is a manager and he treated me disrespectfully, has tried to fight me over a day pass that is free. I even tried to pay for it to not cause issues and he called me names even though this place is supposedly no judgment free zone. I would never come here again and I recommend that you don’t either and go to a better gym with a better staff.

Is great place with great staff, Just be extremely careful when you go into the showers I would suggest wearing shower shoes because I have stepped on glass in there on 2 occasions It was my fault 100% because I did not have shower shoes

I’ve been going to this place for a year and the staff are great! Super helpful and keep everything clean. I happened to visit a location in the county and they had newer machines and fancy massage chairs?? Attention Planet Fitness, we deserve nice things too!! Pretty sure we pay the same membership rates.

Visiting from out of town, came in on a Sunday around 1:30 p.m. was not crowded at all, maybe a dozen people. Very large parking lot, easy entry if you had an RV or 18 wheeler. Steak and shake also in the parking lot. Facility is very large with three overhead fans the normal separate rooms, lots of cardio and everything is spaced out on the strength floor. One level building, very clean bathrooms and workout areas. There were two people on duty when we got here, one was cleaning the machines and the other one was working the desk.
The only negative to the whole place is the overhead lighting that is constantly fluctuating, there are only a few bulbs that are doing it, the ballast may be bad, one is directly over the water fountain area and cardio which is extremely bad. They definitely need to change the light bulbs or fix the ballast, for those people who get migraines easily this would affect them. If we lived in the area this would be our permanent gym. Great polite staff.

I loved this facility and wish I had joined sooner! The aqua classes were great, and I loved the sauna as well. It was overall a very clean facility and very friendly staff. I had to cancel because of moving and they made it so easy! Would recommend.

    5-star

One decrement could be Indoor basketball court size/walking zone. The other is no hot tub. The rest of the facility is top notch.

I agree with other reviewers about friendliness of staff. Very pleasant. Kudos. This shows outstanding management.

I find YMCA pools somewhat warm. This one was warm but not excessively hard to workout in (better). Nice water quality. Kudos again. Sauna but no hot tub.

[Photo note: books present in front area part of a book drive–I added a couple]

Facility is great, helpful and approachable staff. The little ones swim lessons are great. Only 2 family rooms for the pool which makes it a bit of a bottleneck when swim classes finish up.

Giving a bad review because the website is awful. Impossible to change my password because every time I request a change password email, I don’t receive anything, even in my spam folder. Have attempted multiple times. Have even asked for the front desk workers to send me an email twice and still haven’t gotten anything. My only reason for signing up for this gym was for the classes and I’ve still not been able to attend any because of this technical issue. I’ll change my review once this issue is fixed but it’s pretty ridiculous how bad and dated the website is.

Thank you for the reply but I still have not gotten an email.

I went to south city YMCA today. When I scanned my membership card to enter a birthday jingle sound came on. The nice lady at the welcome desk wished me happy birthday🎂😊🤗. This is excellent membership courtesy and thoughtfulness. Which is why I’ve been a member for so long.🤗 Thank you😊

  1. I moved over 3,000 miles away and tried to cancel over the phone. They said they required me to physically go in even though my initial sign up was just for 1 year. I had to cancel it via my bank. They then sent it to collections even though my initial year is over and I cannot go to the gym. I plan on reporting this to the BBB as well and talking to a lawyer.

  2. Nice gym but wouldn’t recommend to anyone I liked.

I’ve been going to gyms in the STL area most days for the past 8-9 years and never experienced the problems I have here. Before joining the Club Fitness on Hampton I was a member at the Planet Fitness on Kingshighway & Chippewa for 2.5 years, which is not as nice of an intersection as Hampton & Chippewa where Club Fitness is located, but never had an issues.

I joined this Club Fitness in early June of 2022. On Labor Day, September 5th @ 5pm in broad daylight, my car had a passenger side window broken in the parking lot close to the entrance and was stolen without a key. This was not a Kia/Hyundai if you’re wondering. The next day it was totaled during a police chase. When the first officer responded on Labor Day he pulled up and said “no cameras in this shopping center, eh?”. He was right. Not a single camera.

One month later on Saturday, October 5th @ 5pm I found an unloaded, semi automatic .25 caliber pistol in one of the two ~3′ tall planters about 12′ away from the Club Fitness entrance. The police came and picked up the gun.

A few weeks ago, I believe it was Tuesday, January 10th around 5:30pm, I was running on the treadmill near the front of the building when there was a shootout in the parking lot. We all had to hide in a back room for 5-10 minutes until police came and cleared the building.

Today, Monday, January 23rd at 6pm I pulled into the parking lot and counted three different cars that had their windows broken into by thieves that left glass all over the parking lot. I drove home.

1/29/23 edit: this past week alone there have been three armed carjackings in the parking lot.

Back in July of 2022 there were people going into locker rooms to steal car keys from unlocked lockers, although I only saw this on Facebook.

Good luck. It’s a nice gym but that parking lot is high traffic, lots of bus stops around, no cameras, and no accountability. Thieves target gyms too so this is the worst one you can go to around here.

  3. They’re giving away free smoothies for reviews. My review is actually honest. Check out all of the BBB complaints, then sign up elsewhere. They’re taking away tanning, child care, and red light therapy from memberships, even if you’re already in a contract. You have to upgrade for more money every month and sign a new 1 year contract to get the amenities that were previously in your contract. Angry owners/management that have zero clue how to deal with members.

  4. Clean and nice gym. A great variety of strength and cardio machines, with the second floor serving as a free-weights area
This location is not very busy usually.
The staff is always friendly and helpful with anything needed.

Some more fans or other ventilation would be nice and the water dispenser to cool the water vs lukewarm.
The location does not include the sauna, but the range of equipments and the business compensate it for me 🙂

  5. if you need to cancel without being in the military, having a disability or moving, they will charge you a buyout fee of $104. sometimes it’s not about the money, it’s the principle. i hate club fitness. they’re the greediest of them all and the man who works there didn’t tell me i was going to have to pay $104 to cancel.
