A Comprehensive Guide to Using a Self-Service Car Wash

Using a self-service car wash can be a simple and cost-effective way to clean your vehicle. Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to use a self-service car wash:

  1. Locate a Self-Service Car Wash: Use search engines or apps to find a nearby self-service car wash station.
  2. Prepare Your Vehicle: Remove any personal belongings, trash, or loose objects from the car’s exterior.
  3. Choose Your Service: Most self-service car washes offer different cleaning options, like soap, rinse, wax, etc. You may need to insert coins, bills, or a credit/debit card to select the desired service.
  4. Pre-Rinse: Before applying soap, use the high-pressure rinse to remove loose dirt and debris.
  5. Apply Soap: Select the soap option and use the wand to spray your car. Start from the top and work your way down, covering all areas.
  6. Scrub if Necessary: Some stations provide a foam brush. You can scrub your car to remove stubborn dirt. Be gentle to avoid scratching your car’s paint.
  7. Rinse: After scrubbing, choose the rinse option to wash away the soap. Again, start from the top and work your way down.
  8. Wax (Optional): Some self-service car washes offer a wax option. Apply this if you want a protective coating on your vehicle.
  9. Dry Your Vehicle: Use the provided air dryer or a microfiber towel to dry your car. Drying by hand can prevent water spots.
  10. Vacuum Interior (Optional): Some locations have vacuum stations to clean your car’s interior. Insert coins or pay as required.
  11. Inspect Your Vehicle: Do a final walk-around to ensure all areas are clean and to your satisfaction.
  12. Follow Safety Guidelines: Always adhere to the instructions and warnings provided at the car wash station. Wear appropriate clothing, and be mindful of slippery floors.
  13. Leave the Bay Clean: If there’s a trash can, dispose of any garbage. Put away any provided tools like brushes back where they belong.
  14. Exit Promptly: Be mindful of others waiting and exit the wash bay in a timely manner.

Remember, every self-service car wash might have slightly different equipment and procedures, so take a moment to read any posted instructions or ask for assistance if needed. Self-service car washes are typically open 24/7 and can be a convenient way to maintain your car’s appearance.

Very nice carwash with the convenience of cleaning out and vacuuming your car afterwards. Plenty of wash options and prices aren’t bad. Can be very busy at times but highly recommend!

Tesla owners beware ! If using touch free option the entry curb is at an angle and you could easily scrape your car if you are not careful as I did today. As I spoke with the young guys I was told curtly it is the drivers fault !! I hope they fix it ! After a decade of coming to the wash I feel uncomfortable bringing my vehicle again for a wash !

Update: Just went back..same exact service I got the first time….this time the car didnt come out fully cleaned…. The wheels were not cleaned or shining like before….they were super busy…maybe they need to clean the drying brush or the other brushes because my car did not get cleaned like before…Im going to keep searching for a good car wash….

My car came out looking brand new…. 4 stars because it did leave some scratches after going through the car wash…. But it wasnt too bad…. Would definitely recommend this location….. Best I been to so far…. And plus fifteen minutes of free vacuum use… Which is a huge plus

People were nice.. only did an OK job getting my car clean.. I got a higher priced wash and it still left a decent amount of smudges etc… the free vacuum is very nice though.

We have been getting our pet loved & used car at Greenhill Car Wash, delighted to say that they manage to take out all the souvenirs (mostly dog hair & mud topped with some dirt) our baby dog girl leaves behind.
The staff is really polite & helpful. Their services are exceptional & reasonably charged, worth every dime.

$10 basic car wash doesnt do a good job – lots of leftover dirt spots and the dryer doesnt work – you will have lots of water spots – used to be pretty good, then prices went up and quality went down. The mini-detail is ok but its over $100 now. You have to pay extra to use the vacuums; most places include it with the wash. Will be going to Go Green in Kennett from now on – it’s a little farther but the wash is way better and you get free vacuum. Blue Hen is ok as well but too far for me. Photos below are condition of my Telluride right after getting a basic wash.

Parking lot design could be better and they need to unclog their triple foam. Did not deal with employees because I used self serve.

Their change machines only pop out these “tokens” that are supposed to be worth a dollar, but then the vacuum machine recognizes them as quarters. So if you come here bring your own quarters because I just wasted 8 dollars on 2 dollars worth of vacuum time.

The $20 premium wash does a pretty good job, but there are still obvious & dirty missed spots on the hubcaps and the rear panel, especially around the license plate. Also, the “spot free wash” leaves white spots on the windows and side mirrors. The biggest disappointment is having to pay for vacuuming. The car wash competitor in Newark does not charge for vacuuming and that is a huge plus. Will return to Greenhill In a pinch because of its proximity, but otherwise plan to get it done in Newark.

  1. I’ve been through Blue Hen Car Wash several times. Their staff is helpful from the time you pull up to purchase a wash until you leave their parking lot. The wash prices are reasonable, it’s quick, and I’ve been satisfied with the wash quality. There are free vacuums and trash cans available after your wash. You can also pay to have your mats cleaned after your wash. They have wash books and monthly plans available if you plan to wash often which may save you some money.

  2. Very quick, but nice experience. Didn’t have time to clean our car at home while watching all of my kids during spring break. So, I was searching for a car wash that I could bring them to “experience” riding through a car wash. Needless to say, they loved it. I purchased the Blue Hen Protect ticket online and just scanned the barcode when arriving. I’m not sure how they decipher who bought what when you go through the wash, but it’s impressive (assuming I received what I paid for).

It’s nice that I was able to vacuum my interior and discard trash upon leaving, because that was very helpful. Very clean and professional car wash. I remember when they first built this, and it still looks brand new. Will definitely return, especially since my kids loved it so much.

  3. Better than the 2 previous car washes I use to go to. Plus the vacuums do a great job. Here is the after after I waxed it

  4. The best car wash in Delaware. Quick and easy and great prices. On top of all that you get a free vacuum at the end of your wash. Love blue hen.

  5. If you drive a sports car DO NOT bring it here!!! Body of car got stuck and was forced to ride the clutch through the entire car wash while hearing nasty scraping sounds from the bottom. ZERO warning signs for low vehicles, extremely disappointed.

Complete waste of time, left with no wash AND car left in worst condition then I entered.
