The Essential Factors for Choosing St. Paul MN Best Gym for Weight Loss

When determining the best gyms for weight loss in St. Paul MN, there are several factors to consider. Here are some key aspects to look for:

  1. Qualified Trainers: A top-notch gym should have certified personal trainers who can provide guidance and create personalized workout plans tailored to your weight loss goals. Trainers can offer expertise, help with proper form, and motivate you throughout your fitness journey.
  2. Variety of Equipment: Look for a gym that offers a wide range of equipment for both cardio exercises and strength training. This should include treadmills, ellipticals, stationary bikes, rowing machines, weightlifting machines, and a selection of free weights. The availability of diverse equipment allows for a well-rounded workout routine.
  3. Group Fitness Classes: Gyms that provide group fitness classes can be highly beneficial for weight loss. Look for classes such as high-intensity interval training (HIIT), aerobics, spinning, kickboxing, or dance-based workouts. Group classes provide structure, motivation, and a social atmosphere.
  4. Cardiovascular Training Options: Effective weight loss often requires a significant amount of cardiovascular exercise. A good gym should offer various options for cardio training, such as treadmills, ellipticals, stair climbers, and indoor cycling bikes. Access to these machines allows you to engage in effective calorie-burning workouts.
  5. Strength Training Facilities: Building lean muscle mass is crucial for weight loss as it boosts metabolism and enhances fat burning. The gym you choose should have a designated area for strength training, including a wide selection of weights, resistance machines, and functional training equipment like kettlebells and medicine balls.
  6. Clean and Well-Maintained Facilities: A clean and well-maintained gym is important for your comfort and safety. Look for a gym that takes pride in cleanliness, regularly maintains its equipment, and provides a pleasant workout environment.
  7. Supportive Community: Joining a gym with a supportive and inclusive community in St. Paul MN area can significantly enhance your weight loss journey. Positive interactions, friendly staff, and opportunities for group activities or challenges can keep you motivated and accountable.
  8. Nutritional Guidance: While not all gyms offer this, some provide nutritional guidance or have registered dietitians available to offer advice on healthy eating and weight loss strategies. This additional support can be valuable in achieving your weight loss goals.
  9. Convenient Location and Hours: Choose a gym that is conveniently located near your home or workplace, making it easier for you to incorporate regular workouts into your schedule. Additionally, consider the gym’s operating hours to ensure they align with your availability.

Remember, the best gym for weight loss in St. Paul MN ultimately depends on your personal preferences, goals, and budget. Take the time to visit potential gyms, ask for trial memberships or tours, and assess how well they meet your specific needs before making a commitment.

Diverse population; Good equipment; I like the walking track overlooking the pool. Locker rooms are adequate. Pool and vortex is great. There aren’t very many staff available to show you how to work the machines. That would be my only complaint. We use this Y as our main facility and Shoreview when we have our nephews, so we can use the outdoor pool.

Your stuff will get stolen. Either your car will be broken into, stuff will get stolen out of your locker, or stuff will get stolen from common areas. Probably multiple times if you’re a regular.
Hours on the weekends suck for people who work or need morning/evening workouts and won’t be expanded. Front desk folks and janitorial staff are always friendly and helpful if they can be. The facility is usually clean.

Nice location and facilities. But I disliked how much I was rushed into getting a full price membership, and the requirements to come in person to sort out being on SNAP/EBT to get the sliding scale costs was way too much hassle when I specified i was physically disabled. The promo I signed up with charged me $50 usd, and barely into March before I could cancel after being too sick and disabled to travel out there, I then have a new $70 balance to deal with as a low income resident of st. Paul. Pretty negative experience, so I’ll be looking got cheaper alternatives for exercise until I can afford to come back here.

If I could give it less than the one star I am never coming back here staff can’t even be bothered to check and see if actual people signed in even though I literally signed in and the guy’s face I was still told embarrassingly that I didn’t in front of a whole bunch of people if you don’t know who’s in the building that is not my problem I don’t work at the y never have and never will they need to change or revamp their sign in policy because my situation shouldn’t happen to someone else but it most likely will therefore I will never be coming back to the why I’ve been coming to since I was 17 and I am now 40

This is the best ymca I ever been too since I was a kid. I gotta say the slides are really fun and chilling in the kitty pool is fun as well. I kinda lost my precious bracelet once in those things that were aside of the pool but never told anyone. I miss being here❤️

I’m not coming here anymore. I was literally sitting down near the walk charging my phone before my workout and the staff continually kept coming up to me harassing me and would not lay off. Then finally she made me leave the ymca after I got done doing handstand push-ups. It’s not my fault that Im not a jealous freak like the new age Karen’s that walk around in today’s world we live in.

The staff here is friendly AND helpful (unlike most of the staff at the #ymcamidway location)! The facility is outdated and not as “comfortable” feeling as some of the other locations and the pool area is way outdated. The clientele is mostly retired seniors so there’s typically never any of the reckless eyeballing from guys that I experience at other gyms. All in all it’s a good place to go for a good #workout 👍🏿💪🏿

I have visited many YMCA’s. But when it comes to Saint Paul they really don’t have any good ones. I visited Y’s in downtown, east side and west side. They have huge place but they really need to upgrade them. On East side I was told they didn’t have barbell racks with different weights and was asked to you the generic barbel instead. They also don’t have sufficient bench’s or cardio equipments( they have like 7-8 treadmills, 1-2 stair, 2-3 elliptical). They badly lack in gym equipments. For the amount of monthly fees they charge it’s not a recommended place if you plan on using it as a gym. They do have a really nice swimming pool and two basketball courts. That’s pretty much they have to offer. Since I have been to Y’s in different cities I really expected them to have a good standards. Conclusion not worth the membership price if you want to use it as a gym! Period

Update: I had submitted in request for physical assessment twice. I got two emails saying someone will be calling me soon. I haven’t heard back from them at all! It has been over two weeks since I last put in request. It just shows that they don’t care. I usually enjoy Y’s but having worst experience with Y’s in here. So reducing my rating to 1 star and i have cancelled my membership.

  1. This is a solid value. I maintain an individual club membership. I have been a PF member for three years and my Id card disintegrated off my keychain and club management won’t replace it. But I can check in at the desk.

These kinds of clubs used to be 24/7, now it’s hours seem to vary and it’s not open weekend evenings when I’m ready to go.

I work two jobs and need to work out on my schedule. But the price is so affordable for a single club I tolerate whatever.

Four stars is focused on the vale of a well equipped gym for like $11 a month. For it’s niche you can’t beat it!

  2. Very dark inside, needs more lighting, bathrooms are dirty with one urinal not working, all the showers had hair On the floor, and look like they never have been scrubbed. Water fountains were in poor condition, dirty. Definitely needs an overhaul, some of the machine handles are in poor condition. Plenty of parking outside enough for a trailer or RV. The front of the building is extremely dirty. Pride in ownership is definitely not at this facility compared to all the other ones around the United States. Some are in poor condition like this one, but no reason for it. Staff at the front counter, two guys were great to talk to very friendly.

  3. gym staff and the gym itself are great. They just replaced their cardio equipment so its brand new (which is weird bc it seems their weight-lifting stuff needed it more but ???)
I think $10 is steep for a gym membership because I remember when they were $8 not too long ago, but that’s more Planet Fitness’ fault than the location itself.

setting up the membership was unnecessarily complicated though, and then I had to call to confirm bank stuff because the first payment didn’t go through anyway.

  4. Gym is fine for a planet. Don’t go at peak times, and it’s fine. DO NOT bring anything of value into the locker room. Tons of lockers get broken into.

  5. Front desk is always helpful. The locker room is always clean and looked after and the machines are all pretty brand new. Can’t ask for much else!
