3 weeks agoOne person operation. If you are in a hurry, forget it. Melissa (the agent) is a friendly and super nice person, but waiting for service, or your car is long and frustrating. When I arrived there were 3 parties ahead of me. At least 45 min wait before my name was taken, then another 30 min- but luckily my car was physically ready. One person ahead of me had waited hours. The one desk person (Melissa) was actually cleaning the cars. I asked her, and she said that this was their everyday process, they were not short. She was it. But service with a smile, not flustered, definitely a great employee.a month agoMelissa is the reason I am leaving this review. She always takes care of customers with a friendly attitude and a smile!I rent a lot of cars from Hertz and others. I keep going back to the Laurel Street location because they are fast and efficient. Melissa is always friendly and smiling! She deserves a Five Star review!
4 months agoI was at this location about a month ago, during spring break – I needed a rental and almost nobody had any. Found one here, but as it turned out, the rental didn’t show up for its return time. The agent helping me, Avery, was very efficient, calm & collected while taking care of my situation and helping the 3 other customers coming in after me. Soon enough, Avery drove me up the freeway (about 10 mins) because they were able to find me a rental. Top notch service on his end. Thank you!2 months agoI had a pick up appointment scheduled for 12pm on a Saturday. Took an uber from the airport and arrived around 1215 due to a slight delay in my flight. Was never notified that my appointment time was at the moment they closed, despite a lengthy conversation with a gentlemen about my vehicle a few days prior who ended the call with “see you at 12pm on the 24th!” I arrived and was informed by the rude attendant that they were closed and she could not help me. So I had to uber back to the airport, rent a car there and pay 3x as much for a lower class car. Maybe I should have checked the posted hours but maybe don’t schedule an appointment for the moment you close and maybe a courtesy call would have been nice to at least save me the uber ride.a year agoStayed in San Diego for a few days before renting a car to tour California, so dealt with the staff here as a ‘walk-in’.Service was good; the package options were well explained to us by Mauricio, and the Jeep Compass we rented for 10 days was excellent.
The location is very close to the airport but it was certainly easier (and no doubt cheaper) to pick-up and return the Jeep at this location. It’s also adjacent to a Shell Service Station, which is handy for whichever fuel option you go for.
Worth noting that this location is closed on Saturday afternoons and Sundays, and so you would be charged until the office reopened if you returned a vehicle out-of-hours.
Would recommend dealing with this place directly.

3 weeks agoPicked up a car here for our vacation in San Diego. This location was close to our hotel and had way better prices than anything else around. It was so well priced we even upgraded to a Tesla for the week just for the fun of it. Nick checked us in and was very friendly and quick. He pulled the Tesla around and offered to run it through the car wash again since it gone a little rain the night before. I didn’t catch his name, but the assistant who brought it back after the car wash was the same one who dropped my husband back off at the hotel at the end of our stay. He was also very friendly! The car was well maintained and clean. The location was very clean, bright, and easy to get to.4 weeks agoNo place to park my car legally. Otherwise it was fine. Got a good rate for eight days rental and received an upgrade since they didn’t have the car I requested. We will always rent from Hertz and this location specifically because of the great service.a month agoI am deeply disappointed with my recent rental experience, which took place on 7/21 at your San Diego location, and I returned the car to World Resort in Las Vegas on 7/22. The drop-off process was chaotic due to an unclear address, resulting in a 30-minute delay to locate the correct entrance in the multistory garage. Additionally, there was no agent present, forcing me to leave the keys in the box and pay a $10 parking ticket to avoid missing my flight. Moreover, I received a $100 charge on my bill despite upgrading to a large sedan, only to receive a mid-size, noisy, and shaky Mazda. Now that the ones I used to frequent no longer allow their vehicles in Tijuana, I called up Hertz and learned they still do permit it so I’m now back to using them. I’m also a President’s Circle member and there was a decent selection of vehicles to choose from on the President’s circle lot. Since there were five of us, I was glad to trade in the large premium car for an SUV which fit all of us perfectly.
DO NOT rent a car from Hertz. My boyfriend and I flew across country from Florida and arrived in San Diego at 1am for our car rental pickup appointment. When we arrived to the Hertz location located at the San Diego International airport, they were closed. Their website states that their hours are 6am-1am everyday, but to our very unpleasant surprise this was not the case. We were not the only ones that had an appointment at 1am for a pickup, there was also a family that had a baby in the same situation as well. We went to the business next door, where they informed us that Hertz does this regularly where they will book appointments past closing time and leave people stranded. Unfortunately we had to resort to going back to the airport and sleeping there from 1:30am until 4:30am when we were able to rent a car with Enterprise (HIGHLY RECOMMEND GOING WITH ENTERPRISE- VERY GREAT, QUICK, AND PROMPT SERVICE). We called the corporate customer service line to make sure our reservation was cancelled with no charge due to invalid hours. The rep, Dee, argued that the location is open until 1am due to what is stated on their website, even though we were telling them we were there at 1am with several other people stranded without assistance because lights were off and doors were locked. They finally informed us they would cancel with no charge, but when we asked for confirmation of this they told us they couldn’t send an email with confirmation or give us an employee ID for reference in case we need to call back. When we asked for a supervisor we were placed on hold for 30 minutes and finally informed that they would have to return our call- still have yet to receive this call back. Dealing with Hertz has been an absolute nightmare and I wouldn’t wish it upon my worst enemy. ENTERPRISE IS THE WAY TO GO!
Had the absolute BEST experience with Marty. If this review were only about Marty and how he helped my sisters and I, this would be a solid 5 star review!!
However sadly, while Marty was absolutely fantastic, helpful, and patient with us, we had a few issues along the way involving the company.
We had a reservation for awhile now to pick up a rental car in LA for 5 days, when I woke up the day we were supposed to drive to LA and pick up that rental car, I got a call from Hertz saying that the reservation was cancelled and there were no more cars available. I am super patient and understanding with things like this, however there was no way for anyone to help us find another car to rent within the hertz system. We called many times, we talked to different people, one even had us going to another Hertz location because he said there was a car there we could rent, but when we got there, there were no cars. The lady working there (who was very kind and helpful) explained that the people who are on the line when we call are not informed when their locations are out of stock or not.
Because of Marty’s help, we rented a car from San Diego to LA, but because of this mess, we went with a different company for our transportation around LA because at the end of the day that was the only option that guaranteed us a car. My sisters and I will not be using hertz in the future, but Marty was absolutely fantastic, and extremely helpful. Very grateful for his help during such a crazy day.
I saw several bad reviews and really worried about my booking. But it turned out a great experience. My pickup time was 11pm, July 28 but my flight was delayed and I arrived at the rental centre almost midnight. I really worried based on bad reviews. Surprisingly, there was no line (maybe low traffic around midnight. After me, there were a couple of other customers.) and Mason was very nice and processed my booking smoothly. As a President’s Circle member, I was able to pick up any car and exiting took only 5 minutes. There were many cars in the parking area. So I think that bad reviews may be isolated incidents.
Great experience start to finish with Hertz at/near San Diego airport. Will helped us at pickup and he did a fantastic job, greeted us right when we walked into the lobby and was quick to offer suggestions of places to visit in San Diego.
Usually when I rent a car I just shop around for the cheapest, but after the great experience I had with this hertz location I plan to primarily rent cars from them going forward.
