A Comprehensive Guide to Using a Self-Service Car Wash

Using a self-service car wash can be a simple and cost-effective way to clean your vehicle. Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to use a self-service car wash:

  1. Locate a Self-Service Car Wash: Use search engines or apps to find a nearby self-service car wash station.
  2. Prepare Your Vehicle: Remove any personal belongings, trash, or loose objects from the car’s exterior.
  3. Choose Your Service: Most self-service car washes offer different cleaning options, like soap, rinse, wax, etc. You may need to insert coins, bills, or a credit/debit card to select the desired service.
  4. Pre-Rinse: Before applying soap, use the high-pressure rinse to remove loose dirt and debris.
  5. Apply Soap: Select the soap option and use the wand to spray your car. Start from the top and work your way down, covering all areas.
  6. Scrub if Necessary: Some stations provide a foam brush. You can scrub your car to remove stubborn dirt. Be gentle to avoid scratching your car’s paint.
  7. Rinse: After scrubbing, choose the rinse option to wash away the soap. Again, start from the top and work your way down.
  8. Wax (Optional): Some self-service car washes offer a wax option. Apply this if you want a protective coating on your vehicle.
  9. Dry Your Vehicle: Use the provided air dryer or a microfiber towel to dry your car. Drying by hand can prevent water spots.
  10. Vacuum Interior (Optional): Some locations have vacuum stations to clean your car’s interior. Insert coins or pay as required.
  11. Inspect Your Vehicle: Do a final walk-around to ensure all areas are clean and to your satisfaction.
  12. Follow Safety Guidelines: Always adhere to the instructions and warnings provided at the car wash station. Wear appropriate clothing, and be mindful of slippery floors.
  13. Leave the Bay Clean: If there’s a trash can, dispose of any garbage. Put away any provided tools like brushes back where they belong.
  14. Exit Promptly: Be mindful of others waiting and exit the wash bay in a timely manner.

Remember, every self-service car wash might have slightly different equipment and procedures, so take a moment to read any posted instructions or ask for assistance if needed. Self-service car washes are typically open 24/7 and can be a convenient way to maintain your car’s appearance.

Do not use their services!! We bought a brand new 2022 palisade, and immediately signed up with Tagg-n-go go to take care of it. We also purchased a very expensive lifetime ceramic coat through a third party to further protect the outside.
Fast forward 1.5 years later, we averaged 2-3 washes a month. Their machines had destroyed our front bumper, peeling all the way down through clearcoat and paint around bumper edges! The sides of the vehicle were scratched so bad as well. When contacting their customer service. First, they said the bad news was we “used their washes too often”. Basically saying it was our fault our vehicle was damaged because we used them too much. When I called her out on this, she backtracked and said “oh never mind, yes you should be able to wash your car”. Then they were willing to send us to a body shop to “buff out the scratches”. When I said it had gone through paint already along several edges, they reiterated that Ray would do a great job buffing. I contacted the ceramic coat company, they said if Ray did the exterior it could void our ceramic coat warranty. When I informed Jenny of this at Tagg-n-go, and asked if there was anything else they could do because we didn’t want our warranty voided, she said instead that they could give us 2 months of washes. So $50 value in exchange for our clearcoat along the sides being torn up, and the bumper being scraped down past paint in areas!
So basically, if you use their washes, it’ll be your fault if their machines chew through your clearcoat and paint.
I cancelled our membership that day.

Nice employees and my car gets cleaned nicely every time we go here. Love the new drying brush at the end. Love the vacuum area with the blower nozzle.

I would give them 4 stars but these last few times have given me merit to reduce them to 1 star. They use a fragranced soap that bonds to my car. The last time I had my car washed, the toxic smell was so strong that I had to leave my car outside in the sun with the windows down for days. When I finally thought I was able to get in and drive again, the vents pushed that toxic fragrance into my face. It was still there. I promise that as long as they use these fragrances, I will never return.

I love Tagg-N-Go Car Wash. They staff is friendly and helpful and even when there is a long waiting line things seem to go smoothly and efficiently. I appreciate the nice area to vacuum and clean the interior of the car too.

Wanted the Platinum wash. The automated system was stuck on Basic wash when I pulled up, no way to change or go back to start. Honked a couple of times to get the workers’ attention.
Finally paid for the basic as cars were now backed up behind me.
Tried to explain my request at the entrance, employee just shrugged and motioned me forward.

Best wash in town by far — chemicals in the self-serve bays are always well-stocked, never had any issues with anything malfunctioning or working improperly. Love that I can come and get a wash any time of day or night as I am generally out and about in the middle of the night. You can really take your time here with the abundance of self-serve bays. They’re a locally owned and operated family business as well! I do wish they had undercarriage blaster equipment in the self serve bays, as no wash in town seems to have them (which is odd considering where we live) so you’re pretty much forced to use the automatic wash in the winter if you care about your car. I can’t fault them though, equipment is expensive!

I really enjoy using the services at Sparkles Car Wash! The pet cleaning room is awesome and something unique to a business like this, I feel. The automatic car wash always leaves my truck looking good, and I love the free vacuums!

I love this car wash! It’s the best priced, you can take your time, it’s well maintained, it has kept up to date with the latest in car washes, and I appreciate it’s not in a highly visible location. And it has free vacuums, there is nothing more to want.

My husband and I went to the dog wash located at the car wash. The coin operated machine took 4 tokens and 4 quarters and didn’t give us any time. I called the number for service and the person who answered the phone was irritated that I bothered him he told me not to put so many coins in. He then said he was on his way. He fixed the machine and told us he would give us a refund for what we put into the machine. He never came back and we only had 13 minutes on the timer. I’m not sure if this young guy is related to the owner or is the owner but I found him extremely rude.

I like this car wash. If you prefer to do it yourself it’s the best place, also have a dog wash. The vacuums consistently work, though the touchless car wash terrifies me as you enter it makes a loud noise . Just the water turning on..but prepare yourself, lol.

  1. Best car wash in Cedar City! i was truly amazed by the efficiency of this car wash. Most of the time machine car washes such as these leave my vehicle looking like I just sprayed it off with a hose and called it a day. Recently, I visited this car wash after I took my truck mudding in the mountains. The two girls that greet you in the beginning took the time to provide extra power wash service and promptly removed the thick mud layers before sending me through the machine wash. I honestly thought I was going to need to take my truck through the wash twice due to the amount of mud layered onto my vehicle, but thanks to the amazing staff, it was one and done for me! My truck is spotless.

Lots of hype and feel good vibes here (marketing!). Everyone seems friendly, but I haven’t ever complained to them so who knows.

The downside is the damage to our cars.

3 year old car washed only at Tagg n Go since new. Looks great unless it’s in direct lighting. Clear coat is hammered. Looks like someone took a fine grit sandpaper “flap disc” to the bumper. That’s not too far from the truth.

6 month old truck is on its way to the same look. Same pattern of scratches.

It’s not like it’s an acute thing that you can point at and argue with them after one bad visit. This is long term and it’s the nature of the equipment used. I have samples of the brushes that ripped off and got stuck on my vehicles, it’s cloth that can hold grit. Clearly that’s what’s happening.

I read all these articles put out by the car wash industry about how the brushes are continually flushed to prevent this. If that’s happening I sure don’t see all that water spraying around. Anyway the results tell the story.

Undercarriage is hit and miss. I pay for the service and have a monthly pass. It’s wet under there but it isn’t washing the salt off in any meaningful way. I can’t hear anything that sounds like water jets underneath. 5 minutes with a garden hose does the job well.

Will be attempting to polish this damage out and then need a new plan for keeping the salt off our cars in the winter.

  3. Beware: Watch your checking account closely for TAGG & GO charges. Cancelled one vehicle on my account because they were charging $55 a month for 3 vehicles. They kept charging $55 a month for 2 vehicles. I cancelled the whole account. They kept charging $55 a month for 0 vehicles. I called the owners for an explination. Was told I wouldn’t be charged anymore and that the last payment would be refunded. Well….
$19.99 was refunded. They failed to refund $34.99 of overcharges.
I’m waiting to see if I’m charged againg on May 7th for
    the cancelled account.

  4. Tag N Go if you’re going to hire teenagers, please make sure they understand what a customer means by please spray the wheels really well. Makes you worried for this next generation. Simple requests go right over their heads….

  5. I’m not sure if they don’t clean the brushes, or they just do a bad job of “pre washing”. I have taken two brand new vehicles through these washes and it never fails that they come out looking like they have been through a sand storm due to all the micro-scratches. Other washes will wash off the brushes throughout the day, it’s apparent that Tagg-N-Go does not. Very frustrating.
