How to Shop Smart at Costco: A Quick Tutorial Schaumburg IL

Shopping at Costco can be a great way to save money and stock up on essentials. To help you navigate the aisles of this warehouse store, here are some simple guidelines:

  • Get a Costco membership: Before you can start shopping at Costco, you’ll need to become a member. There are different membership levels available, each with its own perks and benefits.
  • Create a shopping list: Make a list of the items you need before heading to Costco. This will help you stay focused and avoid impulse buys.
  • Shop during off-peak hours: Costco can get quite busy, especially on weekends. If possible, try to shop during weekdays or early mornings to avoid crowds.
  • Bring your own reusable shopping bags: Unlike many other stores, Costco does not provide shopping bags. Bringing your own reusable bags can save you money and help reduce waste.
  • Compare unit prices: Costco often sells items in bulk, so it’s important to compare the unit prices to make sure you’re getting the best deal. Sometimes buying in bulk may not be the most cost-effective option for your needs.
  • Take advantage of the samples: Costco is known for its generous samples. Don’t hesitate to try out different products before making a purchase.
  • Check the Kirkland Signature products: Costco’s own brand, Kirkland Signature, offers high-quality products at a lower price compared to other popular brands. Be sure to check out the Kirkland Signature section for some great deals.
  • Be mindful of expiration dates: While buying in bulk can save you money, be mindful of expiration dates. Make sure you can consume or store the items before they go bad.
  • Consider the gas station: If your Costco has a gas station, it’s worth filling up your tank there. Gas prices are often cheaper compared to other stations in the area.
  • Budget wisely: Costco offers a wide range of products, and it’s easy to get carried away. Set a budget before you go and stick to it to avoid overspending.

Shopping at Costco can be an overwhelming experience with its vast selection and large quantities, but by following these guidelines, you can make the most of your shopping trip and save money in the process.

  1. Can you beat this, with 1 Costco rotisserie chicken we can make 3 good meals. Good for 2 people in our family.

    1. Eat the chicken as is with toasted bread on the side.
    2. Cut up 1/2 cup of leftover chicken and mixed with Campbell cream of chicken soup and 1 cup of rice for a tasty 2nd meal.
    3. Put the leftover bones and mixed in veggies and simmer for an hour, add noodles at the end for a healthy chicken soup.

  2. You know, I’ve gotta say, I had higher hopes for this place. All the employees we interacted with were great and the store was quite clean despite the number of people milling through. And granted, I haven’t seen what there is to see online yet, but I don’t do my shopping online. This was my first time here, and I guess I thought there would be a different kind of variety of stuff. And again, not that what’s there isn’t good, it’s just not what I was thinking it was gonna be. I thought there would be more pet supplies, and that things would be easier to find than they were. But, now I know for next time I go in – I’ll make that membership pay for itself yet!

  3. Good value on many items but do your research. Buy now if you’re considering something, because when you return they could be all gone! Staff at self checkout could be more forthcoming with the hand scanners. Lines to get out of the store (security) can be longer than those at the checkouts.

  4. The Schaumburg (IL) Costco is consistently busy just like the Oak Brook (IL) Costco. The parking lot does not have the best pavement and it’s consistently crowded. On the other hand, the newer NE Naperville (IL) Costco just off of Ogden Ave built a spacious, well thought out parking lot that, no matter how busy the store, is very accessible with ample parking from every possible direction.

The Schaumburg Costco is generally well stocked.

Overall in the Western Suburbs of Chicago, the NE Naperville Costco has emerged as the most pleasant comprehensive Costco shopping experience than many of the other overcrowded stress- inducing stores.
