My Aunt Diana is moving to Mexico and wanted to ship 11 boxes of books to her new home in San Miguel, so we called FedEx and warned them we were coming. After unloading all the boxes and over 90 minutes of measuring and weighing and calculating costs, the woman behind the counter told us FedEx would not be able to ship due to “a technical error.” No further explanation given.

So I loaded all the boxes back into my Honda and came to the UPS store on Hawthorne. The employees immediately sprung into action. It was like night and day compared to FedEx. One employee grabbed a dolly and followed me out to the car to unload the boxes while Lee (the woman behind the counter) assured my Aunt Diana that she could get the job done.

Aunt Diana is old and cantankerous and likes to tell rambling stories about her time as a war nurse but Lee was patient, helpful, friendly, and super knowledgeable. With Lee’s help, Aunt Diana’s heavy boxes of books were labeled and on their way south of the border in no time.

Here’s the kicker: It turned out to be $700 cheaper to ship with UPS than FedEx!

I can’t thank the UPS Store on Hawthorne and Lee and the dude that helped me with the boxes enough. Aunt Diana was in a real tizzy after the FedEx debacle and Lee sorted it all out and made sure everything went smoothly.

I went to return two items from Amazon today. I got inside, and Amazon had set the return code for a whole foods store. I was pretty stressed about having to go out already, so this was really frustrating. But the person helping me recommended I call Amazon and get them to change the return code to a UPS store. Which thankfully Amazon did. I wouldn’t have known to do it without their help. They were very kind, and this was a wonderful experience. I really needed this today, I wish I remembered their name. But if you see this, Thank you!

Have been printing at location for nearly 10 years. This year, an order that usually costs $150.00 was bid at $600.00. Copies have gone to .75 cents a page? I printed the entire order, myself, on my home laser printer for $50.00. Price gauging? What do you think?

(The note below, offered by the owner, misses the point. This quote was made to me directly from the people in-house. Bottom line: If you don’t like your money, and are eager to spend 10x more than you ought, by all means, use this place for your printing needs.)

I paid for a private mailbox here for 10 years. It was wonderful until about a year ago when the previous owner retired and a new person took over.

Immediately things went way, way downhill. All the wonderful employees quit – which is a clear indicator of poor management – and as I had a personal relationship with some of them at this point, I got the inside scoop on how toxic he was toward them.

I was personally treated rudely by the new owner several times. I agree with the other reviews that describe him as hostile and arrogant.

Wait times got excessively long, the store is now very disorganized and dirty. Several pieces of mail I was expecting were lost, some mail that wasn’t mine was put in my box. I no longer trusted my mail to be held securely or get to me.

I opened a new box at the UPS Store on Powell and 82nd and it is AMAZING. Heaven on earth. Highly recommend – everyone over there is so friendly and my experience has been flawless. They told me they have heard about how bad Hawthorne is and I’m not the only one that has migrated for these reasons.

I do NOT recommend getting a box at the Hawthorne location and I would not be surprised if this place ends up shutting down in the next year or two.

I don’t even recommend going to Hawthorne to drop off packages – a lot of people go there to drop of Amazon returns and I’ve watched the owner turn people away after they stand in line for a long time just because he isn’t in the mood.

I intentionally waited until my box expired and I was totally done with this place before writing this review because I felt like this owner is the kind of person that would intentionally mess with my mail over a bad review.

Amazing customer service, had something that didn’t fit in the box I had and one of the workers who I’m pretty sure is named Ryan helped me out for a while to get it to fit. 10/10

  1. I came here to get a document printed, an item color copied, notary done and shipping

The employees showed me which copier did color and the computer to get the page printed.

They were very nice and professional. While I was there, they had a number of people come in and they also displayed the same professional behavior.

  2. I have had a mailbox at this store for the past 8 years, and the service has been nothing less then impeccable. Every employee is a delight to work with and the owner is a hard working individual who has consitently given me the highest level of professionalism and customer service. Never has he been rude or disrespectful. These negative reviews seem juvenile to me. I am at the store several times a week, and I always leave happier then when I went in! Quite frankly, they are all an asset to our community. I highly recommend this business.

  3. I come here multiple times a month and it never changes. The older Indian gentleman has absolutely no sense of customer service. Extremely rude and belittling EVERY time I go in. (Assuming he is the owner/manager based off other reviews) He could care less about your service so please choose a different UPS.

  4. Kamal, the former manager, has retired. I’ve been a box holder here twice for multi-year stints starting around 2008. I get why some people found Kamal to be “not friendly.” I winced sometimes at how he scolded his employees, even though he was always perfectly friendly to me, and very good at his job. New guy is a lot more laid back and ready with a smile. I can tell he’s treating the employees better. But things are not running as efficiently. 🤷🏻‍♀️ I’m waiting to see if the new guy gets his sea legs. Working at a UPS store is no joke. The workload and pace are really high. Might take some time.

  5. Sad to hear of Kamal’s departure through the reviews here, I’ve been out of town and haven’t seen him in a few months. What I will say is this – for more than a decade I have been coming here Kamal has always been professional and his staff helpful and effective. It’s not an easy job – the people I’ve witnessed lacking humor, common sense and decency and manners are some customers. Not Kamal nor his staff, who are in very high stress roles serving entitled customers always in a rush to their next retail location. I appreciate this UPS store and will remain a customer as long as practical and look forward to meeting the new manager before he loses all his hair dealing with the package mailing zombies.
