I have been a loyal Costco member for a decade, and I’ve always loved the inviting atmosphere, the samples, and the overall experience. However, a recent change has diminished my enjoyment. Why is there a need to double-check IDs? If I’ve already shown my membership at the entrance, it feels redundant and a bit intrusive to have it scrutinized again during checkout. I thought I was joining an exclusive club, not one where I feel like I’m constantly being asked for papers, then I have to set my items down while I’m in line just to prove that I’m actually a paying member when the same person asking me for the 20th time can’t remember who I am as a “ valued member”

This Costco is well stocked and organized. Due to its location it can get insanely busy even during an “off” time. The optometry department is great. They did a full contact lens exam pretty quickly and for a good price. I will say, though, that picking up the lenses on another day was a different story. Expect to wait a while to be helped.

In general I like the store , service and people who works in this specific location. Good quality product and return policy. I’m buying the same products and fish sometimes not offer smells . What exactly happened today. I have to spend another hour in busy holiday weekend to go back and return it. I value my time and as a member will appreciate if , Maybe In the near future somebody check the quality ,specifically of the fish . Thank you in advance.

Typically I have a great experience with Costco. But today, I ran in just to get dinner. I didn’t grab a cart, so my hands were pretty full. I got in the self checkout lane, as I only had a few items. As I approached the front of the line, there was an employee asking to see membership cards. I quickly turned around my small bag, to show her the card that was sticking out from the side. That wasn’t enough……they now need to see the picture on the back. I had to find a place to put my items down, so that I could take my card out. I understand checking cards to get in and you scan it at checkout…..but an ADDITIONAL checkpoint?? Really?? Why not just check the picture at the entrance? Honestly, at this point shopping here is an inconvenience of pulling out my membership at every stop.

Costco is obviously great to buy things wholesale for families. The deals are great. You need a membership to shop here if you don’t know. You can get almost anything you might need in your house. It’s cheaper to stock up on things in bulk and use them. Parking is great, I’m not sure if they validate parking though. You can get food/ snacks or drinks after you finish shopping. Be sure to order them before it closes though.

I love Costco. It’s a great store that takes care of their customers and employees. The only real issue I have is waiting in line to leave. I appreciate retail theft is a HUGE issue but Costco’s receipt checking has been going on for the 15 odd years that I’ve been a member. It’s frustrating to pay a membership fee, get checked when I enter and then have to wait in line to show a receipt and prove that I didn’t steal anything on the way out. I don’t have to show a receipt at any other store when I leave, why at a place where I pay for a membership? Feels like they could find a better way to do this that doesn’t inconvenience their members.

Parking lot kind of busy due to Home Depot in the same mall. The store looks the same as other Costcos inside, but not much room to eat at the snack area compared to others. Overall, still a good experience, and lots of samples at this location.

I have always enjoyed shopping at this Costco. It has become a regular routine for me to visit and purchase everyday items like eggs, milk, fish, and meat. However, my only complaint is a recent change in their membership verification process. They have started having employees ‘sneaking up’ on customers unexpectedly at self checkout to check their membership and pictures. While I understand the need for membership verification, the way it is currently conducted is not acceptable in my opinion.

This is one of the better organized Costco and they do have more stuff compared to other Costco locations I’ve been to. Not too crowded and everything was organized.

How to Shop Smart at Costco: A Quick Tutorial Arlington Heights IL

Shopping at Costco can be a great way to save money on groceries, household items, and more. To make the most of your Costco shopping experience, here are some guidelines to follow:

  • Create a Shopping List: Before heading to Costco, make a list of the items you need to avoid impulse buying and stick to your budget.
  • Plan Your Visit: Choose a time to shop when Costco is less crowded, such as during weekdays or early mornings. This will help you avoid long lines and have a more comfortable shopping experience.
  • Get a Membership: Costco requires a membership to shop in their stores. Choose the membership that suits your needs, whether it be the standard Gold Star membership or the Executive membership that provides additional benefits.
  • Price Check: Take the time to compare prices at Costco with other retailers. While many items at Costco are a good deal, it’s always wise to double-check to ensure you are getting the best price.
  • Bring Reusable Bags: Costco does not provide free bags, so bring your own reusable bags to pack your purchases. This will help reduce plastic waste and also save you from having to pay for bags.
  • Shop in Bulk: Costco is known for selling items in larger quantities, so be prepared to buy in bulk. Make sure you have enough storage space at home for items that won’t be consumed quickly.
  • Check for Weekly Deals: Costco offers weekly deals on various items. Take a look at the current deals either online or in the Costco app to see if there are any discounts on the items you plan to purchase.
  • Sample Products: Don’t forget to take advantage of the free food samples available at Costco. This can be a fun way to try new products before buying them.
  • Add Extras to Your Cart: Costco often has additional deals on non-grocery items, such as electronics, clothing, and furniture. Keep an eye out for these deals and consider adding them to your cart if they are something you need.
  • Check the Return Policy: Costco has a generous return policy that allows you to return most items with no time limit. Familiarize yourself with the policy in case you need to return something later.

By following these guidelines, you can have a successful and money-saving shopping trip at Costco. Remember to stick to your list, compare prices, and make the most of the deals and benefits that Costco offers.

  1. Can you beat this, with 1 Costco rotisserie chicken we can make 3 good meals. Good for 2 people in our family.

    1. Eat the chicken as is with toasted bread on the side.
    2. Cut up 1/2 cup of leftover chicken and mixed with Campbell cream of chicken soup and 1 cup of rice for a tasty 2nd meal.
    3. Put the leftover bones and mixed in veggies and simmer for an hour, add noodles at the end for a healthy chicken soup.

  2. You know, I’ve gotta say, I had higher hopes for this place. All the employees we interacted with were great and the store was quite clean despite the number of people milling through. And granted, I haven’t seen what there is to see online yet, but I don’t do my shopping online. This was my first time here, and I guess I thought there would be a different kind of variety of stuff. And again, not that what’s there isn’t good, it’s just not what I was thinking it was gonna be. I thought there would be more pet supplies, and that things would be easier to find than they were. But, now I know for next time I go in – I’ll make that membership pay for itself yet!

  3. Good value on many items but do your research. Buy now if you’re considering something, because when you return they could be all gone! Staff at self checkout could be more forthcoming with the hand scanners. Lines to get out of the store (security) can be longer than those at the checkouts.

  4. The Schaumburg (IL) Costco is consistently busy just like the Oak Brook (IL) Costco. The parking lot does not have the best pavement and it’s consistently crowded. On the other hand, the newer NE Naperville (IL) Costco just off of Ogden Ave built a spacious, well thought out parking lot that, no matter how busy the store, is very accessible with ample parking from every possible direction.

The Schaumburg Costco is generally well stocked.

Overall in the Western Suburbs of Chicago, the NE Naperville Costco has emerged as the most pleasant comprehensive Costco shopping experience than many of the other overcrowded stress- inducing stores.
