Costco in Santa Barbara CA: Do’s and Don’ts Every Shopper Should Know

When shopping at Costco, it’s important to be aware of the rules and guidelines that are in place. These rules are meant to ensure a safe and pleasant shopping experience for all members. Here are some key rules to keep in mind while shopping at Costco:

  • Membership: Only Costco members are allowed to shop at Costco warehouses. Make sure you have a valid membership card with you before entering the store.
  • Guests: Members are allowed to bring up to two guests with them to shop at Costco, but only members can make purchases.
  • Shopping Carts: Costco does not provide shopping carts or baskets. Instead, they have large flatbed carts that are meant to carry multiple items. These carts can be quite cumbersome, so be prepared to navigate them around the store.
  • Packaging: Costco is known for selling items in bulk, so be prepared for larger packaging. Some items may be too large or heavy to fit in a standard shopping bag, so consider bringing a larger reusable bag or a collapsible cart for convenience.
  • Returns: Costco has a generous return policy, allowing members to return most items for a full refund. Keep your receipt and packaging for easy returns.
  • Codes on Price Tags: Costco uses various codes on price tags to indicate important information, such as if an item is discounted or if it is a seasonal or discontinued item.
  • ID Checks: Costco has a policy of checking membership cards and photo identification at the entrance. This ensures that only eligible members are shopping in the store.
  • Food Sampling: Costco often offers food samples throughout the store. Feel free to try them, but be considerate and only take one sample per person. Avoid crowding around the sample stations to allow others to have a chance to try the samples as well.
  • Cash or Card Payments: Costco accepts both cash and most major credit cards. However, they do not accept other forms of payment like personal or traveler’s checks.
  • Parking: When parking at Costco, be mindful of parking spots designated for disabled individuals or other specific purposes. Follow any posted parking regulations to avoid any issues.

By following these rules, you can have an enjoyable and stress-free shopping experience at Costco. Remember to always be considerate of other shoppers and to follow any additional guidelines or instructions provided by store staff.

  1. I have been phoning around CVS, Rite Aide, etc to try and find somewhere that will a) do a passport photo and b) do one for the UK passport size. Firstly Costco answered the phone straight away and with a real live person who was friendly and helpful. The other places have a numbering system when you call their office number and when you finally get a person, none of them knew if they did passport photos and had to find out if they did them and then if they did a UK size. None of them do bar the CVS on Carrillo who reluctantly took one which I paid for but its the wrong size. Thank goodness for Costco.

  2. Great experience here! Super friendly staff and a great selection. I have been here a couple of times and I plan to continue shopping here. The location is great as there are lots of shops in the area. It makes it easy to do all of your shopping at once without having to drive around.

  3. Costco is a good place to buy in bulk.
They are famous for their low price rotisserie chicken which is a gimmick to get you in the door. Pretty cool and economical for the most part. This store is very nice.

  4. I’m a huge fan of Costco. Membership is reasonably priced. Food court 😋 very reasonable, whole extra large pizza $9.99, hot dog and soda $1.50, chicken Caesar salad $6.99, soft serve ice cream 🍦 large slices of pizza 🍕 $1.99.

  5. I was looking to purchase two 35 lbs bags of salmon kirkland brand dog food. The dog food area was moved and when I got to the new location everything was there except the salmon . Two employees who were restocking the area and told me it was probably sold out …supply chain issues which I thought had gone out of style .Two other customers were asking about the salmon dog food too. I asked if there was a dog food expert and was told the manager in a red vest up front would know so I got the meet Tiana and she went back with me to check and learned there was an entire pallet sitting high up somewhere in the back of store. Tiana said sir I will deliver two bags and find you at the check out . I thought that was great and glad I did not go with the out of inventory / supply chain story . Tiana was great and I told her I write great reviews . I run a wholesale floral company with 22 employees since 1994 .
