Renewed passport in person thinking it’s safer than mailing it myself. They lost my passport. Might as well renew online and have all the tracking numbers when you send ur docs.

I applied for my passport here and the staff is so lovely. I was about ten minutes late as I was driving from Riverside and hit some gnarly traffic. They still helped me out and didn’t make me feel bad for being late. Liz is the agent who helped me with my photo and my application. She was so incredibly friendly and made sure that all of my questions were answered. Liz was also very informative and let me know what the next steps were, how to track my application progress, etc. They office sells money orders to send with your passport application to the Department of State for a dollar and change. They only accept cash or check, no debit cards but that’s also stated online and there is plenty of signage for your awareness. I didn’t have a wait time. I was seen immediately, as I was the only person there. Overall a pretty easy process so long as you have all of the documentation you need. The Clerk website lists exactly what you’ll need and you can find that information anywhere online as well. It’s worth it to take a few minutes to research all of that before you go. That’s how I was in and out in about 20 minutes.Traveling is exciting and the process of getting ready can be overwhelming but they truly alleviated a lot of the stress I initially felt. Thank you for a smooth experience.

I applied for a passport on a Thursday morning and I was in and out of there in less than an hour. The building is well kept and clean and the workers are courteous and knowledgeable. Only issues I saw was that you must pay with cash or check, and there was only one line. There were multiple passport representatives but only one person to check you in. Finally, there is free parking available. The parking garage is located on the south side of the building on W Ash Street.

  1. The staff was very friendly and they were very efficient. I was in and out in 15 minutes. The turnaround was about 48 hours and I was able to return to the agency to pick up the passport.
There is a lot of construction nearby so the parking situation was a bit difficult. I highly recommend leaving early to be sure you have enough time to find parking.

  2. I would not recommend this location. Unhelpful. Inefficient and ineffective.

Office hours published are 8 to 4. They only work with the public 8 to 12. Last appointment is at 11:30. Security personnel sitting around as no public access allowed so nothing for them to do but give out an 800 to call for appointments. But no appointments are available through that number anywhere in the 26 or 28 service centers in the US.

If they give you a number to call to schedule an appointment that is simply a way to send you out the door without any chance of you getting an appointment. No appointments available for travel within 2 weeks and they don’t book outside of that window.

Essentially no office in San Diego or California is available to issue passport on an urgent basis

I would simply not waste resources and would shut that office down and not bother with ever suggesting that you can assist with short term travel when it is clear you cannot.

This office and the 800 number they give you serves no purpose.

  3. I originally gave this passport agency 5 stars because the morning appointment was very efficient, and the staff were professional and friendly. But the afternoon passport pick up experience was a disaster.

My mom needs a passport and we flew in with a last minute appointment. Our appointment was at 8:30am, and we were done by 9am. The whole process was very smooth.

We were told that her passport will be ready for pick up at 3pm. We returned at 2:40pm and there were around 15 people waiting in line. She got through the check in fairly quickly, but for some reason we didn’t get our passport until 4:23pm, causing us to miss our original flight.

  4. Difficult getting an appointment to visit (you can’t call them directly; instead, you can the national number and as operator for an appointment there), but once you get it, it was pretty smooth, organized and fast.

Good location easy to get to in a nice building (located on 10th floor). Staff were friendly, informed, understanding and efficient for a government agency.

  5. In my opinion, everyone at the San Diego Passport Agency, from the security guards to the personnel, was incredibly helpful and friendly. Despite arriving an hour and a half early after commuting from Los Angeles, the security offered me the option to grab something to eat downstairs. However, I was already stressed, so I chose to wait in line until they opened. The appointment was scheduled for 9 am, and they started allowing people in at around 8:50 am. I checked in and was out of the office by around 9:20 am. They instructed me to return at 3 pm with my passport ready for a 7 am flight the next day. It’s important to note that appointments are mandatory, so it’s crucial to come prepared. I know it could be difficult to get through the 1-800 line but don’t give up. Use as many phones to call as you can. I went through 2 agents before getting an appointment. I also overheard people who got an appointment the same day just by continuously calling because people do cancel. I want to extend my gratitude to everyone at the San Diego Passport Agency, especially Diego and Lourdes, for making this stressful process more bearable.
