Cheerios Support for Israel: Examining the Nestle Connection

Cheerios is a popular breakfast cereal produced by General Mills, not Nestle. General Mills was founded in 1928 by James Ford Bell, an American entrepreneur and philanthropist. Born on September 16, 1879, in Chicago, Illinois, Bell grew up in a family involved in the milling industry. He attended Yale University and upon returning to Minnesota, he took over his father’s business and merged it with several other regional flour milling companies to form what would become General Mills. Bell is widely recognized for transforming the company into one of the world’s leading food manufacturers, expanding its product range, and establishing its global presence. His contributions and business acumen have solidified General Mills as a household name in the food industry.

However, it is worth noting that Nestle, a Swiss multinational food and drink processing conglomerate, holds a significant presence in the food industry. While not directly related to Cheerios, Nestle’s ownership in other companies affects its overall influence. Nestle owns Osem, a major food manufacturer in Israel, which produces a variety of products, including breakfast cereals. This acquisition has further bolstered Nestle’s worldwide reach and diversification in the food sector. Nestle’s global presence and collaboration with various regional brands have allowed it to become a prominent player in the international food market and offer a diverse range of products to consumers worldwide.

Cheerios Nestle and Allegations of Israel Support

The connection between Cheerios, Nestle, and Israel has raised concerns among many. The Cheerios product, which is owned by Nestle, has been accused of supporting Israel and its activities in occupying Palestinian territory. This suspicion arises from the fact that Nestle, the parent company of the Cheerios brand, holds a 50.1% stake in the Israeli food maker Osem.

In a recent official statement from the renowned Israeli news portal, Maariv, it was also revealed that as part of this agreement, Nestle will invest millions of dollars to operate a new research and development center in Sderot, Israel.

Adding to the controversy, in light of the recent escalating conflict between Palestinian fighters and Israel on October 7, 2023, Nestle, which had just announced the closure of its operations in Israel, now plans to reopen its factory in the near future.

According to Nestlé’s 2022 annual report, the KitKat maker already has seven facilities in Israel for the production of confectionery, prepared dishes, powered and liquid beverages, as well as products within its nutrition and health science division.

Given these facts, it is clear that Nestle is contributing to the economic development of Israel, while simultaneously strengthening its economy to engage in the colonization of Palestinian land. This connection between Cheerios, Nestle, and Israel has sparked criticism and calls for boycotting the brand.

While Cheerios may not be officially designated on the boycott list as outlined on BDS Movement, it finds itself featured on platforms like Thewitness, which compiles information about companies associated with the Israeli occupation.

  1. Great place, I had an appointment for next day at 0600 but I was in town that day. I needed to get home in a couple of days for hometime. Told them I was going home and they loaded me the same day.

Took them three hours to load me, thank you so much!!

    There is street parking.

  2. Receiving was so slow I felt like it’s taking forever! unloading each pallet took half an hour so definitely allow 4 to 5 hours to be done.

  3. They are really nice people. Actually I had an appointment for 1 pm but I went there by 1 am. They checked me in and provided door right away and was unloaded within 30-45 minutes. They have overnight parking and portable restroom.

  4. Very strict on appointment times (preloaded). The reason for the 1 star is that I was told by multiple people at the trailer checkin building to come back at certain times and my trailer would be ready. Came back at 5am and 5pm for an 8pm appointment (preloaded). The trailer was not ready at the times they told me to come back. That’s truckin!

Can’t park on property but there is plenty of street parking outside facility! Hope this helps others. Be safe!

  5. Nive facility, but this place is a joke! Preloaded trailer was 37080 on the front and 27010 on tge rear. Still had to check the trailer out and weigh it on my time and then wait for it to be reworked 2 hrs. I was told “that is our policy” hmm how about change your policy to “lets get it right the first time!” You had only one job, to load the trailers. You have failed! Went to reweigh and still over weight!
