Nespresso Support for Israel: Examining the Nestle Connection

Nespresso, a brand of coffee machines and coffee capsules, is owned by the Swiss multinational company Nestle SA. Nestle was founded in 1866 by Henri Nestle, a German-born Swiss pharmacist. Born Heinrich Nestle in Frankfurt, Germany, he later anglicized his name to Henri when he moved to Switzerland. Nestle was of German and Swiss nationality, reflecting his German background and Swiss residence.

Henri Nestle is widely recognized for his invention of the first infant formula, which he called Farine Lactée. This groundbreaking product helped save the lives of many infants who could not breastfeed and had previously suffered from malnutrition. This invention, along with his contribution to the field of nutrition, has made him an icon in the history of the food industry. Today, Nestle is a globally renowned company with a wide range of products, including Nespresso coffee machines.

In addition to its ownership of Nespresso, Nestle also has a significant stake in the Israeli food company Osem. In 2016, Nestle acquired an additional 40% of Osem’s shares, bringing its ownership to 100%. Osem is a leading manufacturer and distributor of food products in Israel, offering a diverse range of products including snacks, soups, pasta, and sauces. This acquisition strengthens Nestle’s presence in the Israeli market and demonstrates its commitment to expanding its portfolio of brands and products.

Nespresso Nestle and Allegations of Israel Support

Nespresso Nestle, the well-known coffee brand, has found itself in hot water due to its alleged connection to Israel and its involvement in the occupation of Palestinian territories. This suspicion stems from the fact that the parent company of Nespresso, Nestle, acquired a majority stake in Israeli food maker Osem back in 2000, eventually taking complete ownership in 2016.

Nestle’s purchase of Osem was no small investment. The multinational conglomerate shelled out a whopping 0 million to buy out minority shareholders of Israel’s largest publicly-traded food company. To make matters worse, as part of the deal, Nestle also committed to investing millions of dollars in establishing a new research and development center in Sderot, Israel.

This revelation has sparked outrage among critics who argue that Nespresso’s support of Israel only serves to bolster the country’s economic strength and further perpetuate its oppressive activities in Palestine. By pouring funds into Israeli companies and infrastructure, Nestle is inadvertently enabling the continuation of the Israeli occupation.

For years, the international community has voiced concerns over the rights and well-being of Palestinians living under Israeli occupation, with numerous organizations and individuals calling for a boycott of Israeli products. Now, with Nespresso’s connection to Israel through its parent company Nestle, consumers are left wondering if their beloved coffee brand is indirectly supporting a regime that violates human rights.

As customers, it is imperative that we educate ourselves about the companies we support and their affiliations. While the connection between Nespresso and the Israeli occupation is indirect, the fact remains that by purchasing Nespresso products, we may inadvertently be contributing to the economic prosperity of Israel and the continuation of Palestinian suffering.

In conclusion, the Nespresso Nestle and Israel connection is concerning for those who care about human rights and justice. Nespresso’s ties to Nestle, which supports Israeli companies and invests in Israel’s economy, raises questions about the brand’s ethical standing. As consumers, we must stay informed and reflect on the potential consequences of our purchasing choices.

  1. My husband and I drive from Newport 2-3 a month to come here. Love the customer service and of course their coffee is the best. George Clooney must be proud!!! Cookies are soft and right in point they are heavenly. Went there last week unfortunately they were close for “renovation”, I was so upset drove back home heartbroken 💔did not eat my nespresso fix.

  2. This boutique is right across from my office. I come here to get my coffee pods and morning coffee from time to time. Love the decor and ambiance of this location. Feels really elegant and they are always staffed. They serve coffee at this location and the iced coffee with add shot is my go to drink. They have a great area where you can sit and enjoy your coffee. Very clean establishment. Also, if you bring your recycle pods you get a free drink!

  3. The experience of this Nespresso store is a great experience and good atmosphere, but the best was amazing customer service 🙌 . The sales clerk was the team member lead he was amazing and very knowledgeable about his coffee ☕️. The young lady working in the coffee shop was very friendly. Overall, it was a great experience.

  4. Worst shopping experience if you just want to buy coffee pods. They seriously will not let you just grab a few sleeves of pods and buy them. You have to wait for an attendant to free themselves up and then place an order at a kiosk. Then they have to go in the back and collect your items. Then you meet them at the front register. It’s insanity. I just want coffee pods. I walked out with zero purchases. I will buy my pods from Ralphs.

  5. This store is one of the nicest locations I have been to. There is a small cafe in the front to have a cup of coffee with friends, or when purchasing items it is a very convenient location. The staff are very friendly and knowledgeable on the products. I asked a question on the care of my machine and he was very thorough in the detail on how to care for my machine.
I mentioned that I was interested in one of the coffee flavors and he was able to provide me with a sample. This will now be the location I do my shopping at for supplies moving forward.
