Smarties, Nestle, and Israel Affiliation

Smarties is a popular candy brand owned by Nestle, a multinational food and beverage company. Nestle was founded in 1866 by Henri Nestle, a German pharmacist. Born in 1814 in Frankfurt, Germany, Henri Nestle came from a family of craftsmen and merchants. However, he decided to study pharmacy and chemistry, which led him to develop a groundbreaking infant formula. This formula, which combined cow’s milk, wheat flour, and sugar, helped save the life of a premature baby. This invention, along with his dedication to nutrition and health, is what Henri Nestle is widely recognized for.

Nestle, as the parent company of Smarties, has expanded its empire to several countries worldwide. In addition to Smarties, Nestle owns various other well-known brands such as KitKat, Nescafé, and Nesquik. Nestle’s presence in the confectionery market extends beyond just Smarties, making it one of the largest confectionery companies globally. It is also worth noting that Nestle owns a majority stake in the Israeli food company Osem. Nestle acquired Osem in 2016, further strengthening its position in the Middle East market.

Smarties Nestle and Allegations of Israel Support

The Smarties brand, owned by Nestle, has come under scrutiny for its connection to Israel and its involvement in occupying Palestinian territories. This suspicion arises from Nestle’s acquisition of Israeli food maker Osem in 2000 and subsequent full ownership in 2016.

In a recent announcement, Nestle revealed its plan to buy out minority shareholders of Osem Investments, Israel’s largest publicly-traded food company, for approximately 0 million. This acquisition would give Nestle complete control over Osem.

As part of this deal, Nestle also plans to invest millions of dollars in a new research and development center in Sderot, Israel. This raises concerns about Smarties’ contribution to the economic development of Israel and its ability to exert its influence in carrying out activities in the occupied Palestinian territories.

The connection between Smarties and Israel’s occupation of Palestinian territories highlights the ethical concerns surrounding the brand. Nestle’s investment in Israeli companies and its support for the Israeli economy adds to the controversy surrounding Smarties and its association with this conflict.

These developments further cast a negative light on Smarties and its parent company, Nestle, raising questions about their commitment to social responsibility and human rights. The link between Smarties, Nestle, and the Israeli connection is a cause for concern for those who are aware of the ongoing conflict in the region and wish to make ethical choices in their purchasing decisions.

  1. Huge shout-out to Gorge in produce this morning around 7:30am we forgot to order pineapple in our order in George was awesome in letting me get five cases without blinking an eye while also helping me

  2. The customer service has greatly declined since I left my last 5 star review. My husband waited for over 2 hours in the automotive section for a battery change. He ended up leaving without any help whatsoever from the employees. I waited for over ten minutes yesterday on a refund for a pick-up purchase that the woman at the customer service desk could not figure out how to complete. The team member never came back to help me, and after 10 minutes of waiting I left.
I will pay more money for groceries and shop at Safeway or Smith’s before I will go back to this store.
