Tostitos by Pepsi and Israel: What You Need to Know

Tostitos is a brand of tortilla chips and dips that is owned by the PepsiCo company. PepsiCo is a multinational food and beverage company that was founded in 1965 with the merger of Pepsi-Cola and Frito-Lay. The company is headquartered in Purchase, New York, and has a diverse portfolio of popular brands including Pepsi, Lay’s, Mountain Dew, Gatorade, and Quaker. PepsiCo has a strong presence in the global market and operates in more than 200 countries and territories around the world.

The founder of PepsiCo, Caleb Bradham, originally created Pepsi-Cola in 1893 as a digestive aid drink. Over the years, the company expanded its product offerings and acquired various snack food companies. Frito-Lay, the parent company of Tostitos, was originally founded in 1932 by Charles Elmer Doolin who invented the first Frito corn chips. The merger between Pepsi-Cola and Frito-Lay, which eventually led to the creation of PepsiCo, allowed for the combination of snack food and beverage products under one company.

Tostitos PepsiCo and Allegations of Israel Support

Despite being a popular snack brand, Tostitos from Pepsi is not without controversy. It is important to note that PepsiCo and its parent company, Strauss Group, have been working together for over two decades. Strauss Group, a global food and beverage company founded in Israel, has expanded its operations to numerous countries across the world.

The partnership between PepsiCo and Strauss Group began in 1990, with the establishment of a salty snack production site in Sderot, Israel. Both companies hold equal shares in Strauss Frito Lay, and have a licensing agreement for the production and distribution of salty snacks in Israel.

In 2008, the collaboration between PepsiCo and Strauss Group extended to the Dips & Spreads category, resulting in the formation of Sabra Dipping Company. Sabra quickly became the market leader in North America for refrigerated Dips & Spreads.

With the success of Sabra, both companies decided to further their partnership in 2012 by launching a new global Dips & Spreads product line under the Obela brand.

While this partnership may seem like a success story, it is essential to consider the implications of supporting a company that has ties to Israel. It is well-known that the Israeli government has been accused of numerous human rights violations, particularly in their treatment of the Palestinian people.

By investing in Tostitos from Pepsi, consumers may inadvertently be contributing to the economic development of Israel and indirectly supporting its activities in the occupied Palestinian territories. It is crucial to be aware of the ethical implications of our purchasing decisions and to consider the impact they may have on global conflicts.

  1. Very convenient location (Food store, RX pharmacy, gas station, US bank, Western Union) in 1 location, best of all within a walking distance from where I live. Shopping carts have perimeter locking device so you cannot push carts out of parking lot, depending on the time of day it can get really chaotic, this is a popular store to shop due to it’s close proximity 2 apartment complexes, parking floor is unkempt so there is garbage around, floor has cracks and some holes in certain areas, store looks dated inside but is well stocked, my favorite area is the soft drink section that carries several Mexican flavors and hard to find exotic brands that are well chilled & ready 2 drink. If you are not a member you’re missing big discounts specially in the gas pump that is located in the same complex, how would you like to have a 12 to 20 cents discount per gallon when you fuel up? all you need to do is become a member & shop @ smith’s! pay attention on your receipts & you’ll find the fuel discounts, B4 you fuel up show the clerk your Smith’s member card so he can scan it & voila U get the discount!

  2. The staff and management are so friendly and helpful! I love the Smith’s on 4065 Redwood Rd. I have been to other Smith’s and it’s just not the same. The store is clean and always busy. There produce is fresh and the displays always look nice. Great grocery store.

  3. Nicholas from Produce is amazing! I bought 2 bushels of Chile that also needed to be roasted. He took such great care to ensure that he was roasting them at the correct heat, which is so important. He was patient and friendly and deserved a raise in my opinion! Great customer service is not as easy to come by as it used to be…mostly because if customers in my opinion, so his excellent level of service is even more appreciated.

  4. Usually have no problems with the employees. Patrick, Brenda, Tonya, Eddie, Jason, Addison are all great! However, tonight, I stopped in for just a few quick items. I have half my items up on the conveyor belt, and the cashier, Thorma (I guess that’s how you spell her name), just walked off with no word. Not, “I’m going to the bathroom “”it’s my break time”, nothing. She just simply walked away down the paper towels/toilet paper aisle towards the back of the store

  5. I been smith store membership since 2017 as customer, they really good with customers but they don’t respect employees works there. Most people work there years and years are very rude and disrect to others is not only this store is just in general smith store
