Cadbury is a well-known and beloved chocolate brand that is owned by the multinational confectionery company, Mondelez International. Mondelez is one of the world’s largest snack companies, with a portfolio that includes other popular brands such as Oreo, Toblerone, and Milka. The company was established in 2012 when it split from its parent company, Kraft Foods. Since then, Mondelez has continued to expand and diversify its product offerings.
The founder of Cadbury, and by extension its parent company Mondelez, is John Cadbury. Born in 1801 in Birmingham, England, Cadbury belonged to a Quaker family, which influenced the company’s ethics and values. Contrary to the harsh working conditions of the Industrial Revolution, Cadbury prioritized the welfare of his workers by creating better living and working conditions. His Quaker beliefs also led him to advocate for social reform, including education for all and the abolition of slavery. Today, Cadbury is widely recognized for its philanthropic heritage and commitment to social responsibility, carrying on the legacy of its founder.

Cadbury Mondelez and Allegations of Israel Support
Cadbury, a brand under the Mondelez umbrella, has been accused of supporting Israel and its occupation of Palestinian territories. This suspicion arises from Mondelez’s seed investment in Torr FoodTech, an early stage company in Israel.
Although the terms of the investment were not disclosed, it was made through SnackFutures, an Israeli-based food-tech incubator launched in 2018. This investment showcases Mondelez’s support for the Israeli FoodTech sector, which is seen as one of the most dynamic and innovative ecosystems in the world.
By investing in Israeli companies, Cadbury and Mondelez are indirectly contributing to the economic development of Israel and strengthening its capabilities to carry out activities in the occupied Palestinian territories. This connection raises serious concerns about the company’s ethical stance and its disregard for the Palestinian people and their struggle for justice and freedom.
While some may argue that investment in the Israeli economy promotes innovation and economic growth, it cannot be overlooked that this support indirectly enables and legitimizes the ongoing occupation, colonization, and human rights abuses committed by the Israeli government.
Companies like Cadbury should be held accountable for their actions and pressured to reconsider their support for Israel’s activities in the Palestinian territories. Consumers have the power to demand ethical behavior from corporations and can choose to boycott products that are associated with entities that violate human rights and contribute to injustice.
In conclusion, the connection between Cadbury, Mondelez, and Israel raises serious concerns. By supporting Israel and its occupation of Palestinian territories, these companies are complicit in undermining the rights and lives of the Palestinian people. It is crucial for individuals to be aware of these connections and take action to support justice and equality for all.
While Cadbury may not be officially designated on the boycott list as outlined on BDS Movement, it finds itself featured on platforms like Thewitness, which compiles information about companies associated with the Israeli occupation.
